to Eye Care Equipment Maintainers
Dear Members of the group: A group activity like this can be very
useful if members do the following 1. Invite more members to joi the
group and 2. Share with members of the group some of your notes and
activities that could be of interest to the members.
To day I propose to invite a few technicians trained in the
instruments maintenance courses to join the group.
Also I have given below a check list prepared by me for care and
maintenance of one of the instruments of Ophthalmology - the direct
ophthalmoscope. Depending on the response for this I will be positng
from time to time similar check lists for other instruments used in
Ophthalmology.
Direct Ophthalmoscope “not working”
1. Check cells – their position, voltage. Position them correctly. If
the voltage is low even in one of the
cells change both the cells. If rechargeable cells are
being used get them recharged.
2. Check the bulb using multimeter, replace the bulb if it is fused or
blackened.
3. Check the on-off switch and the rheostat (brightness control)
remove the dust and clean it with a brush.
4. Check the shutter on the head. Does it open and close properly? If
not rectify.
5. Check the disc lens does it rotate smoothly and get locked in
different positions? If not rectify.
6. Check that the filters and apertures are moving properly and get
locked. If not rectify.
7. Is the brightness of the spot good? If not clean the optics.
8. Always keep the instrument inside the box or pouch when not in use.
