Hi fellow extruders,

today I finally managed to get some first results.

I extruded ABS @ 243ᅵC with the 1.75mm nozzle.
The filament looks very well for the first try.

After 10-15 minutes the main motor driving the extrusion screw stopped
working. The reason was it was *very* hot, so hot you could not touch
it.

Now I added another 12V fan, but this seems to be only a slight help.

Does anyone here have the same kind of problem? I guess I will try the
bigger nozzle tomorrow, until I have ordered some PLA pellets.

a couple things once you get the temp senor up to temp and you start the load should be fairly light on mine it gets harder after a couple minutes and I then adjusted the temp up a few degrees until It was back to the same loading.

you might need to raise the temp a few degrees.

@James are you saying you are using 243C and getting Good results or that you are having problems too?

Yes, I've used 243C for ABS, that number is from one of Marks build videos.

If you have a better suggestion I'm happy to try that :)

@James in the beginning of marks video (#5 I think) it said for PLA 174C was what they were using.

Hi , I'm having the same issue , motor is overheating , i think all the unit also as the upper part is very hot
I begin testing with 243 and even less temp
it extrudes about 20 cm and then the motor is blocked , or move slowly
any suggestion to solve that problem ?
Thx

once the temp gets up to 243 did you keep the extruder (Main motor) off for another 5-10 minutes before starting this is needed to get it to run smothly
the first 3 or 4 feet will come out too loose it is scrap but keep it running and it does stabilize I don't have trouble with the motor over heating but I have a cooling systems on mine that I designed
I plan on putting it up for everyone but I am having trouble finding the time right now. too many other fires to put out.

I have extruded about 30 meters and have built 2 parts out of 2 tries using my ultimaker the parts had nice finish the PLA I used was from Mark. Very happy with his material works great.

I am trying to fix the spooling as it does not work well this is way I have not made more. I currently need to baby-sit the machine while it is running which is not acceptable to me.

let me know if this helps I will be around most responding here at night EST time.
