The novel Alas Babylon by Pat Frank was published in 1959, so it must be one of the first post thermonuclear war dystopian novels ever written. I first read the book when I was a kid and it was one of the first books I had ever read that I was not required to. And I loved it. But that was a long time ago so I wondered if it was as good as I remembered it to be. It was. I don't see how a book written in 1959 about World War III could've been any better. And it has one of the best endings in literature, especially the closing line.
