I looked up the author and sent him this.

I have followed the AI alignment problem since the 80s.

It is, in my opinion, impossible. The fault is not in the AIs but in
humans. 18 years ago I wrote a story "The Clinic Seed" where a very
well-aligned and friendly AI combined with human desires led to humans
going biologically extinct.
