Beginners Intro to Arturia MicroFreak + extempore connection

Hello All

I have been playing with my new MicroFreak for a couple of months now.

Finally learnt how it goes and written some notes as I went along.

Now I have 14 single page (mostly) PDFs stepping through the basics.

I had in mind absolute beginners such as my twin grandsons

but I have yet to focus their 15 yo attention for long enough to test the tutorials properly.

Here is a dropbox link to the folder in the hope that someone could try them.

Also attached is a sample sheet.

Would be interested in any comments.

I also have another .xtm file for driving the MicroFreak from extempore. This I will

load onto my public Gists as soon as I tidy it up a bit.

I never used the MicroFreak but this seems useful especially for absolute beginners like you say! 

Have you thought about posting it also on some dedicated channel? eg reddit has one https://www.reddit.com/r/MicroFreak/

I’ve looked at reddit quite often but hadn’t found the MicroFreak channel.

I must try that. I’ll have a look at their discussions to see what they like to talk about.

By the Way

In the “extemp_To_Freak/extempore-2-MicroFreak.xtm” file that I am nearly finished, there is some interesting stuff about response to extempore’s velocity messages. Was puzzled when all values of a note velocity except zero played at the same volume. Eventually found a setting in the MF that fixed it. I wonder if you found a similar situation in the Bento Box?

The one tutorial not there is my "extempore-2-MicroFreak.xtm”  which I'm still working on but should get there soon.

Hi all

I now have a working version of my  "extempore-2-MicroFreak.xtm” up on my public gist.

The one thing I have not been able to do is to send CC# messages to the MicroFreak from within a Patterns loop.

I don't know if that is possible. Maybe someone will be able to enlighten me on that.

Sending from a callback loop  or from the mcc macro is fine.

One peculiarity of the MF is that it won't respond to extempore velocity messages

unless you make a Utilities setting for the individual preset in use. There seems not to be a global setting for that.

I have detailed instructions in the file.

Anyhow here is a link to the file on my gist:

But so far I haven't had any feedback ...
