participant in the October International Meeting “From HEEFA to SDG4:
Building on Achievements”, I am pleased to contact you today to
bring the upcoming IAU General Conference on “Higher Education : A
Catalyst for innovative and sustainable societies” to your attention.
As indicated in the message you received from the IAU last December,
the IAU is developing its strategic plan for 2016-2020; this plan will
be presented, discussed and adopted in Bangkok in November. One of the
main strategic areas of work is, as indicated earlier, the work on
Higher Education and Research for Development. IAU is identified as
one of the key partner networks in the UNESCO Global Action Programme
for Education for Sustainable Development (UNESCO GAP) and is
particularly active in the Policy area and in the thematic priority
area two: the promotion of whole of institution approaches. To
highlight and showcase what higher education institutions from around
the world develop and work on we continue to maintain the IAU global
portal on HESD. You may wish to contribute content to the portal. As
well you may be interested to take part in the discussion that will
take place in Bangkok during the IAU General Conference. For further
