Dear Colleagues,

Happy New Year to you all!

Following the celebrations of Mother Pius Jubilee last year, strong
ideas have come up to establish and manage a trust to help improve
fundraising initiatives for Pius XII Minor Seminary (Blantyre
Arch-Diocese), which currently is suffering from funding
sustainability challenges.

As this move for establishing a trust gathers momentum, i would like
to solicit views from the forum on whether this is feasible, and
mostly what could be the benefits and anticipated challenges in
operating a trust. Are there some of you who have operated trusts or
have witnessed the setting up of such kind of initiative in other
seminaries?-what has been the experience?

Your views will be greatly appreciated, especially by the seminary
management and the diocese at large.

grateful if you can share your views as soon as possible.

Regards

Good morning Limbani and others.
I do not have any such experience of operating a Trust Fund to support a school though it sounds a good idea. There are many ways of supporting our former schools, including the formation of Trusts. In our case, we are also mindful of the fact that our supporting to seminaries should not mean taking over management and responsibilities of the schools. It should just be complimentary. At the moment, our support has been limited to specific activities supported by individual donations. Periodic fundraising events have also been useful.

We are also thinking of a scholarship fund to support needy students.

Peter

Dear Peter,

Thanks for these views. A constitution has been drafted and it will be
shared to all brethren for scrutiny.
