is it possible to start an ssl server with express (now that node 0.4
supports ssl)?

This is in express 2.0 which is in beta now, not sure if it's officially "shipped" yet though. The process is documented here: http://expressjs.com/migrate.html

if you pass the TLS options to createServer() you will get an express.HTTPSServer instance, otherwise express.HTTPServer
