I've been thinking about Bitcoin again, analyzing how it works and why it is evil. One of the things that makes money evil is that it fosters greed by focusing on quantity at the expense of quality. This means that when we get into money we care about HOW MUCH we have but not about HOW GOOD we are. We can easily be persuaded to do evil deeds when "only quantity matters."
Bitcoin is more of the same philosophy. In fact, Bitcoin is a more pure kind of money worship. It's all about the "mining" of coins which is totally disconnected from human needs. We are basically "worshiping math" when we support Bitcoin. We are idolizing the algorithm used to mine coins. A little deeper analysis says that we are worshiping computing power, which is a huge waste of resources. Nothing is being produced of value to people with this vast computing power dedicated to mining coins. It takes electricity to run all these computers, and that is a waste of energy, but more important it diverts computing power from tasks which might actually be beneficial to humanity. For example, perhaps we could be crunching through huge amounts of data to find correlations between disease and environmental toxins. Or perhaps we could be analyzing how political ideas are emerging in human culture and which ones are producing good results in society.
But instead we are worshiping numbers. It's all abstract. That's the essential evil with the money system as well. "Only numbers matter" in the money system and the same is true of Bitcoin. Where are Bitcoins being used to house the homeless, feed the hungry, or provide health care to the sick? Where can you get a job and be paid in Bitcoins? What kind of work will you be doing?
Money is a system. It has laws, rules, regulations and practices. There are institutions like Banks and Credit card companies which stand behind it. Who stands behind Bitcoin? Who is responsible for fraud? Who provides justice to Bitcoin users who have been scammed? Who prevents Bitcoins from being used for nefarious activities such as money laundering, drug trafficking and terrorism? Oh, we are right back to government, aren't we?
Bitcoin is a scam. It pretends to be an alternative currency that is "outside government" but it isn't based on righteous principles. It's based on an evil idea ... only quantity matters. There is no quality to Bitcoins just like there is no quality to money. That's the big problem with both of them. I don't know how you got your Bitcoins or your money .... and I don't care. I only care HOW MUCH you have.
That's worshiping quantity and ignoring quality. That produces greed as a natural consequence. That's the problem with money and Bitcoins ... they produce greed.
Greed is not a virtue. Greed has destroyed our faith in government, business and each other. We have the means of solving global problems but we are focused on "making money" and "wealth without work." This is true for money and true for Bitcoins. They work the same way.
Bitcoin is evil. Money is evil. We need a new economic system, one focused on HUMAN NEEDS rather than HUMAN GREED, one which rewards righteous action and punishes unrighteous action, rather than the reverse.
We need to go back to the table and discuss the options. There are many of them. Some are better than others. Bitcoin is a bad option. Please refrain from supporting it. It needs to "go away" ... the sooner the better.
We need a new economic system. Seek better solutions.
