Everyone please read and respond ASAP,
I've been working on the GPS stuff along with the SPOT satellite communicator.
The SPOT can send messages to the outside world in a couple different ways:
1.) The first is for SOS purposes. When the signal is sent a search and rescue team is dispatched to our coordinates. We can also send a text to describe our situation and the SAR team will send an appropriate rescue team. I believe they will also contact our emergency contacts.
I have made Ashley McEwan our primary contact and Eric Brooks our secondary.
2.) SPOT can also send 14 "predefined messages" as well as custom "type & send" text messages. The "type & send" messages are a la carte and not part of the base price for service. Tom and I have agreed that having the "type & send" would be good to have for trip reports (marketing and documenting our trip) so I have purchased a bundle.
3.) The "predefined" and "type & send" messages can go out to various groups of people (public) as well as individuals (private). Yes, Simon you can send a text to Mommy to tell her you miss her. By the way, was that your sister I saw on Sunday. I was kind of hurt you didn't introduce me.
If you haven't noticed, I have posted on LAKS Facebook and Twitter page a link to SPOT. That is where the public messages will be sent. I'm also hoping to have a direct link to a Google map where people can see a breadcrumb trail of our progress. You should let your family/ friends know about the LAKS page so they can track us. The Cheat Training/ Upper Yough group are already there.
I need everyone to get me there list of contacts. The contacts should be either public or private. The public group will get all "happy messages". The private group will get "I love/ miss you" or emergency messages. The contact information should include: name, email address, phone number and a public or private designation. We don't want to tell the world screw ups. You can also include some ideas for the 14 "predefined messages".
Sandrine, if you wouldn't mind setting up a Google Doc spreadsheet that would be awesome. It would definately save me several hours and a smashed computer. I've attached a sample.
