Guys,
Just a thought here. Originally we were talking about doing the Magpie. Then the West branch was "thrown in". The whole thing is 115 miles with about 25 miles of lake. Most crews have done the whole thing in at least 10 days and it seems to me that the most common time spent on the Magpie itself is about 5 days. We are looking at 6 days to do the whole thing. So my question is: has anyone put some sort of thought into a schedule? Because it seems to me like this is going to be pretty tight. Is it realistic? We have that saying: "Impossible is not French" so I suppose we can do it...
I tried to get a tentative schedule using Google Earth to measure our path. This is pretty rough but least it gives us a ball park. I planned on shorter days (mileage-wise) and also more days on the W-MP since it seems to me that the rapids will be more difficult (By the way, there are a few pix in Google Earth and this place is magnificent). I also planned on going through the lake in one day... let's bring our elbow oil.
Here is how I broke it down. Again, this is only tentative and can be tweaked according to what we find out there but whatever we do is unlikely to be very different from this.
Day 1 - Aug 7:
Lac Vital - W MP: 2 miles
W MP Start - Pt of coordinates [ 51°17'5.92"N; 65° 5'0.46"W]: 15 miles
Day 2 - Aug 8:
[ 51°17'5.92"N; 65° 5'0.46"W] to [51° 3'24.72"N; 64°58'39.12"W]: 20 miles
Day 3: - Aug 9:
[51° 3'24.72"N; 64°58'39.12"W] to start of the lake: 15 miles
Day 4 - Aug 10:
Lake: 27 miles
Day 5 - Aug 11
Lake to [50°25'46.39"N; 64°26'24.07"W] : 26 miles
Day 6 - Aug 12:
[50°25'46.39"N; 64°26'24.07"W] to end: about 8 miles
Finish and get out of the water, Start driving
Day 7 - Aug 13: Back to DC:
Finish the drive
