It's Pink October! Many of us are involved in a variety of activities to raise breast cancer awareness.

For our Expat Cancer Support Group, we will do our part by coming together for our support session with an invited guest speaker- Dr. Lim Hwee Yong, a well noted medical oncologist at Novena Cancer Centre, Mt. Elizabeth Novena Hospital.

We have a wonderful guest doctor, beloved by his many patients -- Dr. Lim Hwee Yong, a US certified medical oncologist at the Novena Cancer Centre.  He will briefly share about the latest treatments for breast, liver and kidney cancers and then open the floor for our most sought-after element in this kind of session--- Free Q and A!! Below is Dr. Lim Hwee Yong's background info.

Dr. Lim Hwee Yong

Background 

Dr. Lim Hwee Yong is a medical oncologist with Novena Cancer Centre and a visiting consultant medical oncologist with National Cancer Centre Singapore. At his Mount Elizabeth Novena Cancer Centre, he provide specialist, personalized care for cancer patients.

Dr. Lim received his medical doctor degree from University College Dublin, National University of Ireland. He did his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Hawaii and Hematology and Medical Oncology training at Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah. Dr. Lim currently hold the American Board Certification for Internal Medicine, Hematology  and Medical Oncology. Upon return to Singapore in 2010, Dr. Lim joins the National Cancer Centre Singapore as a consultant medical oncologist and was a visiting oncologist to the Changi General Hospital, Singapore. He leads and participates actively in various important research involving various gastro-intestinal and hepato-biliary cancers as well as neuroendocrine tumour research. He was part of the peptide receptor radionuclide therapy workgroup that helped establish this new form of treatment for neuroendocrine tumours in Singapore. While in National Cancer Centre Singapore, he chairs the blood transfusion committee and is a member of the clinical trials steering committee. He was also the principle investigator of multiple research projects including multiple projects that was awarded the prestigious National Medical Research Council of Singapore grant funding.

Dr. Lim is actively involved in the education of doctors, medical students and nurses. He is a member of the Medical Oncology Residency Advisory Board that review and advise on medical oncology training structure and serve as examiner for medical oncologist trainee exit exams. He has published in international journals, authored book chapter and serve as an editor for the book Neuroendocrine Tumours. He teaches medical students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Duke-National University of Singapore, as well as oncology and palliative care nurses.

Dr. Lim is the President of the Singapore Society of Oncology from 2012 to 2013. He is a founding member of the Singapore Hepatopancreatobiliary Association. Dr. Lim is also a member of American Society of Clinical Oncologist, American Society of Hematology, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, European Society of Medical Oncologist and Singapore Medical Association.

Did you know Emily is organizing a fashion show lunch at the club to raise fund for the cancer group?
