How do I get it to use shadow flare for enemy skill materia, whenever I encounter one it uses shadow flare once then never again for the whole fight or it just never uses it, I keep feeding it ethers but it just won't use it.

Shadowflare can be randomly called by the Geomancer's Terrain ability in 3D versions, dealing powerful non-elemental damage to a single enemy. It the only terrain ability that can activate in any terrain, but has only a 2% chance of activating in most areas. The only exceptions are a 10% chance of appearing in the World of Darkness, and a 40% chance of appearing in southwest Saronia and Eureka.

[view edit purge]A shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object. It occupies all of the space behind an opaque object with light in front of it.

Unfortunately, as has been evidence by some in-room measurements I have seen, many people are not aware that this is an issue and think nothing of it and the ill-effects of the improper positioning of the flare. Therefore, I did some investigating into the matter and have provided the results below.

As you can see, the position of the flare matters. As illustrated by the red curve, when the flare is sticking above the surface of the baffle and not pressed all the way in - to align with the midrange cone - the response dips as much as 12dB at approximately 1.3kHz! Per the blue curve, when the flare is pushed inward to align with the baffle face - but still not pushed all the way in - the response dips about 5dB at 1.1kHz. When the flare is pushed all the way in (black curve), the 1-2kHz region dip is resolved and instead you have a less severe dip centered around 700Hz.

Actually, the influence of flare is very small when shooting a single toned subject. 80% of veiling flare come from the tonal distribution of the subject. Sensitometers do not produce flare. That way you can isolate the characteristics of the film. Flare, however, is factored in when calculating such things as desired Contrast Index and ISO film speed. Some people will question where in the ISO film standards it says anything about flare. It doesn't, but it does incorporate into the calculation.

What most people don't realize is the 0.10 above Fb+f density point is the point to calculate film speed and not the minimum usable density point or even the point where the exposure should fall. The average scene's shadow illuminance falls about 1.28 log-H units below the meter calibration point or about a stop below the speed point. Average flare is around 0.3 to 0.4 with bringing the shadow exposure to the speed point or slightly above the speed point.

Stephen: I think he mentions it more than once, but the one in mind is page 70, Davis, "Beyond the Zone System, Fourth Edition", in the first paragraph of the "Testing Film" section. I believe the book is searchable at Amazon.com. He basically says flare's effect is difficult to quantify, and the curve distortions make them unusable for graphic analysis. By this, I presume he means I can't then separate flare effects from film response, as shown in your graph. Or is it something more basic?

Mike, I just read through page 70 and all Davis is saying is to contact the step tablet to eliminate the influence of flare. This would also apply to shooting it using the camera. If you sandwich it (ie contact it) like you say, there won't be any flare because there isn't any space between the subject (tablet) and film. The camera is simply a light source in such a situation.

You're right on the concept that certain silver atoms will revert back to an ionized state, but it happens after every exposure. Film speed is determined after a specific hold time between exposure and development for this reason. The areas of low exposure (shadows) are the least stable. Film begins to lose speed during the exposure and most of the speed loss occurs within seconds. After about two hours the latent image regression hits a plateau. For this reason two hours was the "old" hold time for ANSI B&W film speed determination.

From a stand point of using collective multiple exposures, it would figure that after the first exposure equaling for example 25% or the total, part of the latent image for the shadows will revert back. Part of the second 25% exposure will go to reactivating the reverted latent image from the first 25% exposure, and so on with the third 25% and fourth 25%.

I'm playing at CodePen and trying to make a cinematic CSS3 lens flare like in multimillion blockbusters. I tried to make it through the box-shadows but I'm unable to make them with needed shape, this is totally wrong. I can't use canvas or JS at all, so the point is to make it only with css, if it's possible. The result effect I want to get is something like this:

He is able to conjure a shadow blade of considerable size to move forward and attack his opponent, and also use it as a temporary shield to defend himself from attacks he cannot handle by guarding his body.

He is also able to conjure multiple smaller shadow slicers to attack either multiple opponents or barrage a single opponent. With training he is able to control the size and shape of his shadow slicers. These slicers are capable of slicing through and defending against lots of things, and as of yet have not been shown to be defeated by anything an opponent could do oppose Cassian. He later uses it as a cross guard to defend again Bloodrain's heavier attacks. Usage of these slicers drain his magic points slowly. During his berserk he summons a shadow slicer storm to overwhelm his multiple opponents and it's effects devastate them, bringing them to their knees or rendering them unconscious. The skill increases either after his berserk or through raising his magic points.

This skill does not harm Cassian himself as he is shown holding his shadow slicers without it affecting him in his skill merging process. It increases a level after his magic points increase and going berserk.

It increases another level after eating the true magic stone from Barracuda's Fang, with Barracuda's Fang's homing properties added to it. The shadow slicers are capable to moving in patterns similar to Barracuda's Fangs when it was still powered by the true magic stone, towards targets Cassian wills them to.

Cassian uses his shadow slicers in rapid succession, surrounding his targets. He would first use this unconsciously in 33 and continue to use it in prolonged battles against opponents. This is first named in Episode 60.[28]

He is able to hide in shadows from a distance. This allows him to get away from his opponents and surprise them in a fight. It can be linked with Shadow Dash. It is noted to consume a lot of magic power when in use.

This skill allows Cassian to move to a shadow he targets. He can link it together with Shadow Hide to move around fast at high speeds or get away from a fight. Moros notes that using it drains magic power fast and should be used wisely. Cassian in this state is capable of travelling through tiny gaps and seems to be able to move around freely without being stopped by obstacles in the physical plane as long as shadows can exist in that space.

This skill allows Cassian to summon the shadows from an opponent's shadow into a physical form and bind them for an extended period of time if he wills it. The shadows constrict the opponent and prevent them from moving their limbs or shifting to another physical state, as it prevents Bloodrain from using Blood Step to escape the fight. He is able to use other skills when it is active to finish off his opponents definitively.

This skill allows Cassian to ignite and combust "flames" of Darkness to either burn the opponent to a crisp or counter an opponent's similar flare skills. These flames are able to devour fire created through an opponent's magic power as seen from how it reacts to contact with Pointer's flame spear. Moros notes that it has spiritual properties as it was able to burn away cursed spirits and impurities. It's true capabilities are yet to be seen.

Are these signs of camera defects with my iPhone 13 Pro Max? I keep getting these lens flares when taking photos and videos with bright sources of light. Happens allot with the sun during day and bright lights during night.

Sorry but you can't always angle your way out of the lense flares, I tried many times but most of the time it's just not possible unless I point it in a different direction, but then I don't get the shot that I want.

See the big reflection from the sign in his image, if I took a picture of this with my compact camera or my DSLR camera, I wouldnt get this kind of reflection at all, so no it's not normal. It's the way they positioned the lenses, and they also need coating to reduce the flares. They just need to do something about it and fix it.
