I was just working as a proofreader on a recording project, and the cue I was looking at was supposed to start with measure 6. I noticed that it was starting at measure 1, and (figuring that the copyist had simply overlooked it) went to set the Measure Number Region accordingly. I was surprised to see that the measure number region had in fact been set properly, but for some reason was not updating:

This is a bit of a long how-to video to help you understand how to achieve several different common looks for measure numbers in your scores and parts. Feel free to skip ahead to a particular style to see how I recreated them from scratch.

This request comes from Mike Ruckles who is wondering if I can come up with a good way to create the little arrows that often can be found before a measure number when there are skipped numbers. The most obvious solution is to use an Expression, but I think I came up with a better solution for this that avoids all the headaches that using an Expression for this would cause.

In the Final Rolls for Indians by blood, you will find the person's name, age, sex, blood degree, and census card number. For Freedmen, you'll find the person's name, age, sex, and census card number (no blood degree).

And just like that, Chucky Season 3 is done. It feels like we just got our favorite murderous doll back, and we've already said goodbye after another round of mayhem-packed episodes. But just because Season 3 is over doesn't mean Chucky is done.

At the end of the Season 3 finale, which saw Chucky's (Brad Dourif) adventures in the White House wrap up in truly insane fashion, Chucky himself appeared to viewers and implored fans everywhere to vote him in for a "fourth term," meaning yet another season of the hit series created by Chucky mastermind Don Mancini. So, how do you support this "fourth term"? Well, there's a phone number flashing on the screen -- 1-666-1BAD-DOLL -- but as you may have noticed, there are too many digits in that number to make it connect.

The "surprise" waiting for fans when you text the number is another message from Chucky himself, and a link to join a Chucky community where you'll get regular text updates from your friend 'til the end. Presumably the eyes on all of these digital activities may have a hand in helping Chucky get a Season 4, which Mancini already has an idea for. So, if you want a fourth season, call, text, do whatever you have to do to keep Chucky on the air.

Created by Mancini in the 1980s, Chucky debuted in the 1988 slasher classic Child's Play, and has endured for the last 36 years, evolving over the course of six sequels, one remake, and finally, a hit SYFY horror-comedy series.

If a staff is not needed for a whole cue, I will hide it. I never delete them, as I may need to add something later or insert the cue into another one, so it is important that each score has the same number of staves, even if some are hidden. My scores also contain the sketch, which I do not want to show in page view. The solution is another staff style that forces the staff to hide, even when it has notes.

I do not like the look of the other program. The default settings have a few really silly things in them and most people leave them. For example the parenthesized cautionary accidentals it puts on tied notes over system breaks and magnetic layout can screw up and move things to the wrong place. Finale can look bad too, but it is way more flexible.
I started with finale and have never used the other one, have not felt the need.

Hi Tim, that was the first thing I tried, but hides the whole name, including the number. Were do you use the short cut? When you click on the staff name on the score or in the score manager? Thanks for your time.

Highlight just the part of the text you want to hide (in this case the instrument name itself, not the number) while in the staff attribute dialog, while editing the full staff name and abbreviated staff name. Then press ctrl+h or cmd+h in mac while highlighting the instrument name, but NOT highlighting the instrument number. This leaves the name in for the copyist, but leaves the name out for the printed score.

Been working through a few of these. Some taking me ages to do, mainly creating + naming the groups then renaming the individual instruments to have hidden text but visible number. Any advice for how to speed this up?

to print,or get get you parts out of the music score on Finale (Windows Version ) go to,FILE,upper left corner, click it,go to export, this will put you parts out of the score.Than you can click on print if you want to print the parts !!!

Very interesting approach with regards to extra staff and using optimization to hide them when not used. Have you found a way to have one template that you can quickly and easily adjust the instrumentation for a given project or cue or do you use several different templates instead? Or perhaps you use the Document wizard and apply document style? But then I guess that would not have all you hidden staves and other customized items.

I update the template for each project. I start with the previous one so any improvements I have made appear in the next project. I never use the document wizard. Due to all my quickeys and needing to make everything act in a very predictable way, I always make any changes manually.
A project may have several templates for different size orchestras. We often use Large, Medium and Small sized bands as not every cue needs full woods or brass etc. I will post a template one day soon.

Everyone knew the Game of Thrones finale Sunday night would set records for HBO in viewership, despite the loud screams of dissatisfaction from fans of the show over its creative direction in season 8.

Qualification Ropings - WSTR sets the guidelines for independent contractors to produce qualification ropings throughout the year giving members an opportunity to win their way to the Grand Finale in Las Vegas. Contractors producing qualifiers are limited to a 20% stock charge. They are NOT required to provide prizes, although many do. The 80% payback, provides ropers with the means to acquire prizes through the association prize program where none are provided by the qualification roping. Qualification ropings are on-site cash payment entry ropings, where ropers may enter at the event, prior to the start of the roping they wish to enter. Contractors do require "cash only" at on-site entry ropings, and is advertised in advance, some accept credit card payments.

Qualification Positions Reserved - At times during the year you may see announcements that certain divisions at the Finale are full and late entries are waitlisted. This means that all positions reserved for Legacy teams, or direct entry (waiting list teams) are full. This does not mean that entries are closed for qualified teams. World Series reserves Finale positions for winners at the qualification ropings, and in fact we reserve positions in every division for every qualification roping on our schedule.

Go Round Money in Short Round - A fast time check of $1,000 will be paid to the fastest time in the short round of any short round of a qualifier that has 101 or more teams. Fast time in a short round of 100 or less will receive $300. The winner of this fast time check shall not be a team who places in the aggregate unless there are no teams who caught a steer and did not place in the aggregate. In that instance the Fast time check would go to the fastest time of the teams that DID place in the aggregate. Under NO circumstances will this short-round check be paid to the fastest on three head, or a team that did not catch in the short round.

Declaring Finale Entry - During the time of payoff, teams who have placed in the aggregate and won a minimum of $4000 should be given an entry form to enter the Finale or may download a form at the website WSTRoping.com. By earning a qualification spot the team is eligible to receive a discounted entry (entry fees at the Finale are *$2500, discounted entry fees are $2000). In order to exercise this option your entry fee must be postmarked within 30 days of winning. Qualification entries are not generic and must be used in the division won, unless there is a number change or you are a Key Card or Key Card Max Member. If you miss the discount entry deadline those qualification winnings no longer count and DO NOT turn into accumulated earnings. Qualification ropings occurring in October, November and December will qualify for the following roping year. They can enter at the discount provided their fees are paid no later than January 30th of the following year. Under no circumstances will winnings from a qualified team be counted as accumulated earnings. The thirty-day limit shall not be bypassed for accumulated earnings. Incomplete entries are drawn out and refunded the first week of November.

Questions relating to this are:
Q: What if my partner is already entered or we want to rope with someone else?
A: Qualification entries and direct entries are based on you as an individual. If you want to split and select a replacement partner, that roper's fees are based on his/her situation. You may pick a replacement partner who has or will rope at the current year's WSTR qualifier or who has roped the the preceding year WSTR Finale event. If we your entry is received within the 30 days, and your partner is not paid, your partner or replacement partner will need to be paid as announced the first week of October.
