If you have decided that you no longer want to use a particular program, you may well head to the Control Panel or the Start menu and run through the installer. In most cases you will find that this gets rid of the program in question in its entirety, but this is not necessarily the case.

There are occasions when an uninstaller files for one reason or another, and this could mean that software you do not want is left untouched on your hard drive, or that remnants of it are left behind. When you have indicated that you want to remove a program, it stands to reason that you would prefer that no traces of it were left behind, and this is something that Avast Clear (Uninstall Utility) can help you with.

You should first run through the regular uninstaller for you avast! tool or you will find that this utility has not effect. If you have other anti-malware software installed, it is possible that Avast Clear (Uninstall Utility) will be flagged up as being suspicious, but it is perfectly safe.

I suspect someone tried to uninstall Avast, but it was not successful. I could not find a way to uninstall the rest of Avast while i was on site. I found avastclear, which should gracefully uninstall everything, but i am not sure if what the previous tech/user tried to do. Does anyone have any further insight onto this? I am worried about avastclear not working, which may force me to wip the machine without a golden image.

It would be standard procedure on a consumer version, in the event of a failed uninstall, to use the Avast Clear utility. When you run the utility, you select the folder Avast was installed in, if different from the default. ( This is key because the contents of the folder will be deleted )

I believe it is business/enterprise grade. This is for a city/municipality where they have the CloudCare. I searched in the windows start menu for Avast, but only saw an installer. I did not check for the folders. I am not at the location to check at the moment. And I can not reach it via our RMM. I will be on site later this week to confirm.

The Avast Clear will remove all instances and leftovers of Avast Antivirus, when used in safe mode. You need to do that. Also, there is the Avast DNS engine called Real Site" that has, in the past, caused somew wierd issues, and I would disable that function for testing, sir!

So I had installed Avast free antivirus (2015) on my macbook (2014, with OS X Yosemite), and it's messed up my computer. It made it so that a number of my websites that I commonly browse were blocked, so I removed the application with the help of AppCleaner and manually removed a load of documents and packages connected to avast from my computer. In retrospect I probably should have made use of the uninstaller, but I only discovered there was an uninstaller after I deleted the app. Now even more sites in my browser are blocked and can't be accessed in any way. I've been looking in my system to figure out if there were still avast documents, but I can't find any, and I'm at a loss. Thankfully I have an ipad, so I can compensate with it, but it's a nuisance.

I 've tried a lot of things to get my browsers to work properly again: reinstalling the app so I can properly uninstall it (doesn't allow me to install because it cannot make a connection with the server), searching through my folders (library/launchdaemon, library/applications etc) for remaining avast folders to delete, turning my firewall on and off, and turning my computer on and off.

FOr reference, this problem applies to all my browsers: chrome, firefox, and safari. I also can't access the appstore anymore. Also for context as to why I even installed avast in the first place: some adware had managed to infect my computer (perfetnight) and made it play ads very loudly on my speakers. I've gotten rid of the initial malware (I hope), but now Avast is haunting my computer with a vengeance! does anybody know how to fix this?

If you cannot load that webpage, please boot Safe Mode by following these instructions: OS X El Capitan: Start up in safe mode. While in that mode, load the page referenced above, follow its instructions, and then reboot normally.

The most recent version of "Avast" installs what can only be described as adware, and as such, is indistinguishable from malware itself. Don't use such things, since they can only increase your system's exposure to malicious interference. Excerpted from Effective defenses against malware and other threats:

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

And are there any AVs that still work on XP now? The only one I now have is PCTools Threatfire, which being "behaviour based threat scanning" doesn't need signatures. In any case, no viruses the last 10 years I've been running XP.

He has a link to an old version of AvastClear that works on XP. One problem though: it hangs trying to delete a firewall file, which does not exist. I found that rebooting into "Safe mode with networking" let it complete; just "Safe mode" doesn't work.

Thanks for the flowers! However, the list is still not complete. There are further security and antimalware programmes targeting Windows XP that still need to be written about. The lack of time alone is the limiting factor, though.

In general, absolutely unnecessary. If Avast can't be removed from Windows inside, no matter whether in normal or safe mode, you can do this from outside. I did that in the past to remove locked registry entries which couldn't be deleted from Windows inside, not even by using Avast Clear in safe mode.

Well I had a problem years ago where I tried using aswclear. It did remove it. However after I remove it many programs failed to start because of missing files or dlls. I don't know how that happened.

Another thing about Avast is that it doesn't have any cleaning function at all for the infected files it finds. Unless you had the vrdb ready then you were screwed. One time I was servicing a computer and I let it scan at boot. And I it deleted Internet Explorer completely because it couldn't clean it.

i have 2 anti virus running at the same time. i want to uninstall avast and retained esset as the main one. i cant find the unistallation procedure on avast. can you help me uninstall it from my computer/

I have a avast software folder in my programdata and I'm pretty sure it's junk, I already uninstalled avast through control panel/deleting so should I delete the avast folder in programdata? I do have admin permissions but my issue is if it is safe and should I do it, my programdata folder has a lot of gigabytes so I should probably delete unneeded junk.
