Some sad news regarding CKS. Chuck was diagnosed with cancer shortly before Christmas last year and is now in hospice care in Bellingham. Jan Hofland and I visited him this morning with Chuck’s son John helping with the conversation. He is still able to see visitors so if you’d like to visit contact John Kingsford-Smith at 360.920.4556.

Thanks for the update, Gary.  That's really sad news. CKS is a legend in his own right.

That is very sad indeed.  I found this news story about him and the answer to what happened to his dad a long time ago.

I remember Chuck from when I first joined the LID Lab in 1974. One of HP’s early technical pioneer/leaders and a great guy. Very sad news.

Thank for update, Gary, and to Neel for the news interview of CKS.  I'll always remember his kindness. I've told others about how I admired him over the years - to me he was the epitomy of genius with humility and without bravado.  Rest in peace, CKS ❤️

Very sad news indeed.  Chuck was one of my favorite people.  I first met him when I joined HP in 73.  We worked together multiple times on different things. I always appreciated his analysis of things. He had the ability to look at ideas from unique angles, revealing extremely useful insights.  I also flew with him a few times.  One flight I copilotted had a little too much excitement.  But we made it through. I learned a lot about flying from him that night.
