Would anyone want to carpool with me? I'm in Ardmore and can drive by any of the towns between there and the Wissahickon?
I'm able to go with the change in time to 1 on Saturday...

Ming

All,

Because of the nasty weather forecast for Sun am (chilly rain w/strong wind), FoW and I just now spoke and agreed to move it to tomorrow afternoon.  (Not the raindate next week – my kids are in this weekend and can’t be next weekend).

I know that some of you will be unable to come, and I apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment.  Am hoping that some of you who couldn’t come on Sunday will now be able to come at the last minute.

Please show up at the site (0.4 mi upstream of Valley Green Inn [VGI]) at 1 pm; we’ll do the dedication at 2pm, and, if needed, finish planting afterwards.  More details below.  Updated link here noting additional parking, given that there may not still be parking left at VGI at that hour – but worth checking out if the additional walk is a burden for you:

From FoW (Friends of the Wiss.):  google map with planting location and parking options listed. The main thing to note is that the lots closest to Valley Green Inn will likely be filled, and the other parking options will all require a 10-15 minute walk/hike to the planting site.

[Apologies if you get this twice.]

Subject: Details & registration link for Oct 12, Sun am: Event in David's memory

Hello All -  [this is going to everyone who said they’re coming + those who did not RSVP]

We should have very good weather this coming Sun Oct 12 (chilly early on).  If you’re coming to plant, please show up at 9 am at the site (more below). ; there will probably be a group meeting up about 8:45am or so at Valley Green Inn.  If you’re coming just for the 11 am dedication, please show up at the site a bit before at 11:00.

My original email is below w/a few updates:

==============================================================================

Everyone,

The planting for the memorial restoration site for David in the Wissahickon will be Sun am, Oct 12; the rain-date is Sun am, Oct 19.

We'll be planting one small tree, a bunch of shrubs and a bunch of perennials.  There'll also be a new bench in his memory, and I'll say a few words about David; others are welcome to chime in, especially if it's related to David and his connection to the Wissahickon or to nature generally.

Logistics

There may be more people than plants; if so, I’ll try to have each person get to plant at least one plant.  There will be experienced folks supervising.  You’re also welcome to just stand around and hang out.

The map in the registration link below is accurate in terms of locations – if you don’t know ‘Megargee Dam’, just ignore that.  Once you’re at Valley Green Inn (coming from Valley Green Rd if you’re coming from the Chestnut Hill side, or from Wise’s Mill Rd off Henry Ave, from the Roxborough side), you’ll walk upstream, ie, towards Bell’s Mill Rd/Northwestern Ave, 0.4 mi to get to the site, which is right on Forbidden Drive – you will see us!

9-11 am:   Planting.

11:00 am:  Break (if planting not finished) to do the dedication.  Feel free to show up for just that part.

Noon:        Scheduled end time; may finish sooner.

I recommend that everyone wear at least long pants/closed shoes (ticks, thorns, etc) and bring water even if you’re just watching; hats & sunscreen recommended.  If you want to participate, tools will be provided, but if you have them, feel free to bring gloves & hand trowels.

Registration: FoW (Friends of the Wiss.) has given me the website:  it includes a map:  ………………….  IF you are not comfortable with the online form, or can’t sign in online, there will be paper forms there.

RSVPs to me (if you haven’t yet):  SVP! SVP! SVP!  (ie, please please please) do LMK if you’re coming so I’ll have a rough idea of numbers.  Note: please do not forward this email – if you think someone who should be invited has not been, contact me directly – thanks; am still looking for some contact info.

Hikers (and Everyone): there will probably be another event in the spring, hopefully a short-med hike and a visit to David’s site in the Wiss; perhaps also a tree-planting elsewhere.

Robin
