What started as a DVD rental company has grown into a mammoth entertainment service, essentially rendering cable television useless. The rise of Netflix and other streaming platforms has facilitated people to enjoy their favorite TV shows or movies from the comfort of their homes.
To pause your Netflix subscription for a month, go to the Cancel Membership page and select "Pause for 1 Month." If you wish to extend your break for another month, go to the Your Account page and click on "Extend Pause." You can stretch a subscription pause for a total of three months at a time. This is also where you can find the option to unpause your membership at any time.
With over 250 million paid subscribers, perhaps Netflix finds it easier and more cost-effective to simply get rid of old data. This is exactly what happens to your Netflix account if you stay unsubscribed for over 10 months. Netflix stores your watch history, recommendations, ratings, and other account details that make it easy to switch between devices and still have your entire catalog carried over.
When you return to Netflix after pausing or canceling your membership, you'll start where you left off. Unfortunately, 10 months is all Netflix gives its users before nuking their account details. While a streaming platform doesn't store essential user data, you might find it annoying to come back to it months later just to realize you forgot which episode of "Breaking Bad" you were supposed to watch next, with no easy indication of where you had stopped before.
If you have been playing games on Netflix, this is yet another consideration to worry about when canceling your membership for a long period. Despite a few games offering cloud save on the platform, these saves are made to your Netflix profile and are affected in the same way as the rest of your account information.
Surprisingly, there is very little friction in restarting your Netflix membership. Apart from promotional emails and notifications if you still have the app installed on your phone, a simple login and button press is enough for your Netflix subscription to begin again. Since Netflix stores your credit or debit card details for automatic renewal every month, you don't need further authentication before resubscribing to a plan.
Despite Netflix's new password-sharing restrictions, most of us continue to find ways to give access to our accounts to friends and family. However, this means anybody with the login credentials to your Netflix account can accidentally restart your membership and end up charging you for another month. The simplest way to avoid this is to change your account's password. To be extra cautious, head to the Your Account page, and under the Security & Privacy section, click on the "Sign out of all devices" option.
Like most subscription-based services, your access to Netflix's catalog of movies and TV shows doesn't immediately come to a halt the moment you cancel your plan. You can continue using Netflix till the last day of your billing period. For example, if you pay for your account on day 21 of each month and cancel your subscription on day 7, you still have around two weeks to enjoy your favorite content. To find out the exact renewal date, visit the Billing Activity page on your computer or phone through a web browser.
There is one exception to this rule, though. If your account was on hold for whatever reason, it will be shut down the moment you cancel your plan. An account can be on hold for a few reasons, the most common one being a failed transaction for the month prior. If you aren't able to use your Netflix account despite being charged, contact support or check with your bank.
They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.
Not clear if they are just checking geo location vs subscription. And putting a higher weighting on folks not streaming from Turkey IP addresses.
Maybe if you VPN into Turkey and watch from Turkey for a while, it may keep you active.
I re-join it after they cancelling mine 2 days ago. I have to use Netflix gc to make it works. However, when I want to continue the program I was watching before the cancellation, I MUST use VPN Turkey, otherwise, it flow an error and can't watch anything. Does anyone has similar issue after re-joining?
@Mistredo: Normal that I now have to use Turkey VPN to watch? Is that because I just re join due to their one sided cancellation? Is that perm or only for 1 or 2 months? I never need to use VPN to watch in the past. Thanks
@pedantique: I went back to check and looks like geolock was introduced around mid 2023 mentioned in this post. So if you had signed up before then you wouldn't have gotten it, however, all new Turkey subscription has had it ever since.
FAQ
Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: It seems like every new sign-up to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This can take anywhere from as little as several days to 30 days. There are many reports from OzBargainers and others reporting this error disappears within 30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise the error will pop up). Since this is only temporary, it shouldn't be a problem after 30 days or so, andthis small hassle is well worth the savings.
What are you on about? Netflix is a paid media service, not a essential service or utility. If the quality is bad and the price is high, you can simply not use it, they have no obligation to provide value based on your tastes and personal income. Then you don't get to watch it. They clearly don't need you as a customer if you don't even pay full price, otherwise they wouldn't be booting people right now.
@Guybrush57: Plenty of other subscriptions have increase since their release, it's really not a shit tonne of money compared to what else Aussies spend money on. You cant really compare to the cheapest countries, as you aren't living there and getting paid in that currency. Anyway in reality it's only twice as much as Turkey now.
@jetblack: Haha bravo, I agree. I've just lost my Netflix service and a few dollars, but I am not going to chase down a few bucks when I knowingly was breaking their terms, that's on me. I've saved plenty, now they are cracking down, as a good business should, time to move on.
If people can't afford it the right way, then it's not for them, it's not a necessity like water & electricity FFS.
I swear there is a lot of child-like entitled behaviour here, it's perplexing.
I'm not saying you're the bad guys, but I am saying it's hypocritical to try gaming the system, and then cry about it when the system stops you from gaming them. Maybe you personally aren't upset over it, but you can see that there are plenty of others in this comment section that are.
Is that screen shot from a PC?
Were you accessing Netflix over a VPN?
Same boat of account signed out, but fam mostly watches on a TV/Tablet - which isn't on a VPN - so dont know if I want to go the GC route.
@CodeXD: Gave it a good crack,
Signed up at turgame and attempted to buy a card twice, but payment wouldn't process.
Was able to get a turkish gift card from G2A and redeem it.
But netflix wouldn't let me redeem it, it kept showing the price in euro at the ro-en website. Might need a different VPN?
Now I'm not able to sign in to netflix while on VPN through turkey
there's only ever 1 or 2 shows at a time on netflix that i wanna watch anyway, usually less or none. they picked the perfect time to axe my membership this time though with DTS S6 and Avatar being aired now. I'm sure this timing is no coincidence and it's been thought through by netflix to get people on to legit aus subs. i'll give this win to them for my past 3 years of 'exploitation'. i'll be going back to my old sources. forget netflix.

No skin in this game, I just steal content now as the streaming services got too shit. Just seems a bit dodgy the way they're wording it. I know everyone knows what's going on and the later stuff about content licences etc is their real problem.
We live in the age of streaming. In the earliest days of streaming content online, Netflix was a leader, even an innovator. However, it has since faced difficulties, primarily due to the proliferation of its competition. Networks, studios, umbrella corporations, and niche content hosts have launched streaming platforms. This has made the competition for viewers' time and the content that keeps these platforms healthy and flourishing extremely fierce.
Given all of this, should you continue subscribing to Netflix, or is it time to switch to Apple TV, Amazon Prime, or one of the other streaming platforms on the web? If you're ready to simplify your streaming service subscriptions, keep reading.
To cancel your Netflix account, follow these steps in a mobile or desktop web browser. It's simpler to use a desktop browser, but the same process applies to the mobile version of the site. To skip to step 5, go to the Netflix account cancellation confirmation page.
