Inthe photo below you will see that the clip that holes the center section of the sport finder hood in place has come loose.

Is there a way to fix this without sending it out? Can it be snapped back into place?

Difficult seeing your exact problem. Have you removed the 4 tiny screws (on each side) which hold the entire top/folding piece on?

Looks to me as if I am looking at a corner not the center. I have looked at both of my Yashica TLRs (a Yashica 635 c. 1957 and a Yashica-Mat c. 1958 and do not see a center clip.

When you mention the center section section of the sports finder are you referring to the piece which swings down and locked in place.

Find the repair manual of your (unknown) model and hopefully find your answer.

Here we go ...

Google plus tenacity = answers! I found another Butkus site which does not require a PW. I think if you posted your Mat TLR questions in the Yashica Mat Group you would get more answers. Medium format covers a lot of ground. www.flickr.com/groups/yashicamat/

Below are 4 photos of a Yashica TLR D.

In photo 1 (T/L) let us call the large piece which you grab to open the top # 1. It hinges just behind the "Yashica" name plate. Below photo 1 we see a finger pushing the center section down ward, once down it locks. The release button is located lower right behind the rear plate. Two of the four screws I mentioned earlier are pointed out with red lines. When all four are removed the entire top section comes off. Maybe once off you will have a better look at your problem. Once the top section is removed the flat top is the viewing screen with graph lines. Clean it carefully while the top is off. Download the PDF/JPEG I up loaded and try to point out exactly where you note the problem. Repost in the Yashica Mat Group ... and see if we can't solve the issue. Warning !!! the 4 screw are tiny ... if they fall on a rug they maybe for ever lost. A tiny common screw driver is needed and a tweezers will be very helpful to re-install them. My entire professional working career was working in two high tech fields. Auto-Pilot system on the F4C Phantom followed by 30 + years of working for Diamler-Benz (aka Mercedes-Banz) in their technical area. Despite extensive training in electronics (A.A. degree) and automotive technology (A.A. degree) I hesitate going any further than removing the top section and cleaning or replacing the viewing screen. I have $60K in tools but lack those required to properly service a camera. I lack the knowledge, the expertise, the practical skills and no spare parts. With all the short comings I am incompetent to proceed.

Tread lightly ... the pond may look frozen but is maybe thin.

Inside the hood there is a small metal piece that locks the focusing hood cover into place until you push the release button it is connected to.

It seems that small metal piece has come loose from the release button. It has a hole through it.

My guess is all I have to do is push it back into the release button, similar to snapping snaps on a pair of pants or a coat.

Do you think it would be easier working on the problem area with the complete top section removed? 4 tiny screws hold it in place. If your decide to remove the top section remove and replace the screws with the light / shade stack open. When closed the sides of piece 1 will not allow for your screw driver to held straight up and without proper blade/slot alignment you may bugger up a screw or two.

Keep us posted.

Good luck.

I recently stripped my Leica IIIf to repair the shutter curtain, despite my initial trepidation, it wasn't that difficult.

One thing I did to ensure no lost screws however was perform the removal whilst the camera was in the lid of a shoebox.

Simple but effective,

When looking at Finder and Explorer, we can see problems with this on different levels: Besides lacking in terms of fulfilling essential requirements for the copy process itself, there also appears to be a general issue with the practicability of using the tool on set. In the following, we will go into these two aspects in more detail:

Whenever you copy camera footage, you have to make sure that your files are copied securely. This means that hashes (checksums) are created of the source material and compared with the hashes of the resulting copies. This is essential for moving any kind of file from one storage medium to another and making sure that they are identical to the byte.

Beyond the secure copy process, there is an essential need for proper documentation. This means that all copying processes can not only be proven but can also be reported in a structured manner to everybody necessary. This can help as a reference to look things up, from special clips to data load per day, or in the worst case, reconstruct a chain of custody.

The same goes for the scheduling of copy jobs, enabling you to prepare copy work for later. Suppose you want to trigger more than one copy job to be executed after an already running job finishes, or you have to copy footage overnight. In that case, the possibility of scheduling will make many of your tasks easier to execute.

To avoid these kind of surprises, we recommend working with dedicated offload software for copying footage. There are many software options out there that are specifically designed for copying camera footage. Most of them cover all (or the majority) of the features and requirements we just discussed. On top of that, many of those software applications even go a step further and offer some additional benefits for you as a user:

Having a simple way to configure multi-destination copy jobs sets dedicated copy software apart from Finder copy. Select the copy source and add multiple destination drives to create several instances of the footage within one job.

To sum it up: Even though Finder and Explorer might appear to be a suitable copy tool at first glance, due to their limitations in security and practicability, they should be avoided on professional film sets. Particularly in film productions that are large enough to divide responsibilities and therefore require structured, well-documented, and traceable processes.

An essential accessory when drying film after processing. Both clips are spring loaded and have two spikes which firmly grip the film. One clip is weighted to ensure the film is held straight whilst the film dries.
