I'm received the license activation codes from rstudio support, and am trying to follow the offline activation instructions at -activation, since the VM showed as expired from the start. I run the code, and get the xml output in the VM terminal. However, I am unable to cut and paste from the VirtualBox Quickstart VM to the offline activation app and manually copying that code is not feasible.

I've edited the Virtualbox settings as you suggested, and managed to go through the offline activation process. I wrote the command-output to files activation-request-command > fileoutput.txt, and then copied files to/from the virtualbox server via WinSCP to enable the activation, for rstudio-server, rstudio connect and rstudio package manager. Here it shows the activation success:

I am trying to activate a license for NI Vision Development Module Run-Time. I have the license, activated it to get my codes, etc. but when I go to the license manager there is no option on the little pop up for "No internet connection? Continue with offline activation". I have activated many licenses this way before and have never had this issue. Any idea why this may be happening?

What version of NI License Manager are you using? What workflow are you using to get to the dialog you are expecting and could you send a screenshot? Also, for completeness, is your system fully offline, on an offline local network, or actually online, etc? Finally, if you open NI License Manager, go to the Local Licenses tab, right-click the project, and select "Activate":

Workflow: Open license manager application and click "activate software" at top of application, this is where no option to activate online is available. Referencing this website. Attached photo as well.

When opening license manager, navigating to local licenses tab - there is only the option to activate two vision modules. Attached screenshot for reference. Not "my project" per say if that is what you were directly looking for. No option to activate online.

The feature you're looking for (the prompt to activate offline within the wizard) was added in a later version of NILM than you have on your system. There were improvements made to better support network setups like yours (local network with no network access). The latest version available is NILM 21.8.1.

Attempting to install Version 10. Server is specifically blocked from web, so offline activation is needed. Found the following KB article - seems pretty straightforward except for one thing. I can download the hardware fingerprint application and run it, but to create the license file, I need the activationtool.exe and its config file. The KB seems to assume activation happens after install, in which case these files would be in the file system. However, it is asking for activation before install, so I clearly can't run activationtool. So I am stuck...any other options?

That is one way to do it! I actually figured it out myself. Since the install is a compressed package, I was able to find the 2 files needed in the appropriate cabinet file, change the file extensions, copy to an internet enabled machine and it worked perfectly.

I have a situation where installing Quickfields for use with a cloud system. Workstation is getting a Winhttp error. There is no software installed on that workstation at this point. Is there a place where these files and instructions for offline licensing can be downloaded?

When you install Tableau Server, you have to activate at least one product key, but we recommend that you activate all Tableau Server licenses found in the Tableau Customer Portal. Doing this activates the server, and specifies the number of license levels you can assign to users. For offline activations, you should activate the product key listed in the Offline Activation Id field in the Tableau Customer Portal. For information about finding the right key, see the Find the Correct Key to Activate on Tableau Server(Link opens in a new window) Knowledge Article.

There are also times you may need to activate licenses after Tableau Server is installed, for example, if you add capacity to your server, or get a new product key. If you don't have your product key, you can get it from the TableauCustomer Account Center.

In most cases, you can activate your key directly from Tableau Server, either during installation, or later, using the Tableau Services Manager (TSM) Licenses page, but there are some circumstances that don't allow you to do this. If your computer is not connected to the internet for example, or has a firewall that restricts access outside your intranet. In these cases you need to do an offline activation.

Beginning in Tableau Server version 2023.1.0, offline activation is supported for LBLM when your server is configured to use the Authorization-to-Run (ATR) service. You can only configure Tableau Server to use the ATR service during a new install. Upgrading customers with existing server installations need to install a new instance of Tableau Server version 2023.1.0 or later and restore a backup of their existing installation to that new instance. For information on this process, see Using a Blue/Green approach for upgrading Tableau Server. For more information about ATR service, see Activate Tableau Server Using the Authorization-To-Run (ATR) Service.

Beginning in Tableau Server version 2023.1, the Tableau licensing system supports two underlying licensing technologies. From an administrative perspective, the only configuration difference between the two systems is the file types that are generated and consumed for offline activation. The licensing technology is determined during the initial installation of Tableau Server, and cannot be changed after install.

We refer to the legacy (and still supported) version of licensing technology as FlexNet. The latest version of the technology is referred to as Server ATR. For more information, see Activate Tableau Server Using the Authorization-To-Run (ATR) Service. The following table describes the file naming nomenclature for each technology. The table also includes the generic reference.

If you attempt to activate your product key from the TSM licenses page and see a dialog that says online activation is unavailable, you can activate the key offline. The offline activation process must be completed once for each product key.

Create an OfflineActivationRequest file you will upload to the Tableau activation website. If your product key is not pre-filled in the form, enter your key and click Create Offline File to generate an OfflineActivationRequest file on the local computer.

You will upload and submit the OfflineActivationRequest file to the Tableau activation website. This automatically generates an activation response file (OfflineActivationResponse) that you can download and copy back to the Tableau Server computer.

Note: When using ATR to activate Tableau Server, should point to the packaged OfflineActivationResponse .zip file. Do not unzip the OfflineActivationResponse file prior to running this command.

I use Cakewalk offline. I am told activation offline needs to be done. When trying to do this it says I have to 'choose' the apps tab (in bandlab?) However I can't find an 'Apps Tab'. Can anyone help? (Also if I don't sort this out before the time - 7 days - runs out can I or can't I continue to use Cakewalk?

Open Cakewalk on your offline computer. Click the "help" tab then "offline activation"/export offline activation request. This file is then copied to a flash drive to use on an "online computer" to get the activation file that you transfer back to your "offline computer" Just google Cakewalk by Bandlab offline activation" for exact instructions. You will need Bandlab Assistant or Cakewalk installed on an "online" computer even if you only use it for activation purposes. Might seem a little tricky the first time you do it , but it's Very easy and I never have a problem if I need to reactivate that way.. mark

Of course purists and, dare i say it, luddites, will scream and shout that you must never keep a DAW on line. But, Hell if the PC guru from Sound on Sound says its ok to be connected, well, its possibly true, no ?

Coincidentally, I found myself without internet this week and got the message that I needed to reactivate my Cakewalk or lose being able to use it. Saturday a week ago lightning fried my satellite internet router and the earliest I could get someone here to install a new one was ten days out. So, I had a work around. I connected my computer which has a USB WIFI (very cheap) to my cellphone hotspot and was able to activate my Cakewalk. I had a minimal cell data plan but enough for that and to keep me on the internet for a little while. I hope the guy that Viasat sends shows up tomorrow.

Frankly, if there was not always this threat from Windows Update, then I would agree. There are 2 things that disturb me then: 1.) The updates are time consuming, 2.) there maybe some settings (happens all the time) or driver changed. Not that I mind security updates, but especially feature updates are (or have been) worthless for me.

I'm with David Kaye. I downloaded and installed the bandlab assistant and my computer is also not showing an "apps tab" as described in the instructions. Every other person who has come on with no valid answer about the faulty instructions re: offline activation and saying "dude, just marry the internet like me - I don't even think twice" is not helpful and those "answers" are irrelevant and/or otherwise fallacious.
