Hi guys, I've read various posts relating to this but I still can't suss it out. I just wanna run games in 4:3 format. I've changed the options so many times I've lost count! It's either still stretched, a big border all way around the screen or the picture is off up in the top right.

I know I have encountered your problem before but I can't remember what exactly caused it, I wonder if maybe you got some sort of scaling set in your Windows Display settings since you are on a 4K display and that may be causing the issue. Not sure at all, just throwing something out there for now.

epsxe 2.0.5

I'm running Windows 10, first of all. My fix was to right click on "epsxe.exe," click "Properties," select the "Compatibility" tab, click "Change High DPI Settings," and finally check the box next to "Override High DPI Scaling Behavior" with "Application" selected in the dropdown menu.

Thanks for the info! This is a bit off topic, I apologize in advance. But, will Duckstation allow for an up-res in visuals like epsxe? Also, is there a good thread for the best Retroarch PS1 core troubleshooting? Thanks again!

For some reason, Retroarch just crashes when I try to load Beetle (HW/SW) and then a .cue or .bin. Both my game rips and bios dumps are confirmed working in other emus, and I've placed bios files in the Retroarch "system" folder & pointed the directory setting there. Running v1.3.6. Puzzling, for sure.

Why would not change your negative thinking and just reply that's an older version of Retroarch .We or I recommend updating to the latest's version . If that does not solve your problem reach back to me and ill be glad to solve your issue..

I cannot get epsxe to run on my 64-bit Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I have tried Running ePsxe 1.9 on Ubuntu 13.10 but it still does not work. I have downloaded BIOS from (PSX BIOS Pack (15 Images) - PSX - SCPH1001.BIN). Every time I click Run BIOS, the program crashes.

you'd be better off using pcsxr over epsxe. epsxe is dead and the linux version is outdated, pcsxr is being actively maintained and improved. it may not be as fast as epsxe but if i'm not mistaken it's more compatible and it's open source, which is a huge plus.

here is a modified PKGBUILD of the one found in AUR that will build the latest version available. please note that although i've left the option to build the opengl plugin enabled i would advise against using it as it's simply crap, especially compared to the actively maintained xvideo plugin. it may have some nice and fancy features but it's just not worth using at all..

Hmm, I think this means you have a 64bit system but epsxe is 32bit. You'll need to cross-compile then. Or use my libspuPeopsALSA.so.1.0.9:
Or download enetrnalspu manually and put in in the plugins folder.

@e_tank: I actually tried pcsxr but as it turns out it just froze before it enters and opening cutscene in the game, I think it's because of some graphic problem. Myabe it was because it use xvideo rather than openGL. I'll try to use your package build then.

pSx renders in the original resolution (which is sometimes 320x240 - no I'm not kidding with that) and then just scales that up if you resize the window. ePSXe renders in the actual resolution you set up in the plugin settings. So the difference you see rendering in 320x240 compared to rendering in 1024x768 (or whatever you've set).

Just in case anyone is interested, I created an AUR package for the ALSA build of that SPU plugin. Not sure if it helps here though (only i686 builds as far as I know) but it may help others who come across this thread with the same issue.

First of all, If your having trouble running Doom and Final Doom on your ePSXe emulator.
Experiencing loading screen just sitting and not loading when u start up the game?
Here's what u have to do.

1. Run ePSXe.
2. Load Doom or Final Doom cue file, not bin cuz the CD media will not load therefore the game will hang at the loading screen.

I'm using ePSXe 1.9.0, but it should work for any ePSXe versions.

I hope this solves your loading problem.

for anyone who's been having problem with loading Doom and Final Doom on their PlayStation emulator.

I know lots of people have been looking for ways to get Doom psx iso's to work on their emulators.

that's why I posted this thread.

Ok... Here we go:
First of all you must chose the video drive. Each game in ePSXe requires his own video driver. For example for Duke Nukem 3D you must use freshest driver but ever there exist a few graphical glitches.
The faster way to find out which driver requires a game is just pick one of them - press 'nice' button and then launch.Spoiler

I use Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.7 for the Video plugin.
ePSXe SPU core 1.90. is recommended for Doom and Final Doom. don't use P.E.Open.S. Sound audio driver 1.10 cuz the streamed media for doom will not play.

Doom and Final doom use relative paths to play music files. Game hangs to the [ LOADING... ] screen due to a bad file naming.
Make sure your .bin files are named exactly like this : PSXDOOM.bin or PSXFINALDOOM.bin , otherwise game wouldn't find the path to the intro music it's supposed to play after the loading screen (PSXDOOM\CDAUDIO\DOOMMAIN.RAW).
Then the game should work fine.
Hope I've explained it well ... Kisses from France

Duckstation is the only PS1 emulator worth using at this point, its true. It also has full support for RetroAchievements, with both Doom and Final Doom having full sets to earn. Although a few of them are utterly ridiculous..

Cool, thanks. I hated RetroArch's UI. PSX emulators have always been a real pain in the ass for me. epsxe just kind of sucks, Beetle on RetroArch has cool things like texture replacement, widescreen, and the ability to "fix" PSX wobbly geometry, but the interface sucks. I find PSX emulators to be more of a hassle than any other console. Still haven't found anything that can run DQVII without some kind of issue.

Stenzek is still working on DuckStation IIRC! Development resumed a few months after it was paused, he just needed to step away for a bit. Some PCSX2 improvements have made their way back to DuckStation - Controller mapping in particular is so much nicer now.

For anyone else who reads this topic, while the general recommendation would still by PsyDoom, for those who really want the authentic experience (framerate and all), please use DuckStation, or RetroArch's BeetlePSX core (and/or whatever they call their DuckStation core).

ePSXe was a good emulator back in the day, but it's simply outclassed by either of those options in emulation accuracy, reduced complications due to not being plugin-based emulators (is the bug in the emulator, or the plugin?), and a whole bunch of other technical shit that I'd be happy to bore you with if you wanted to ask me about it.

Trust me on this. I've seen a lot of emulators come and go in twenty years. Just because it was widespread and popular does not mean it will always be so - otherwise, we'd still be using NESticle, Gens, and UltraHLE.

He's madly updating PCSX2 right now, the daily changes almost always have his name on there in recent days, but yeah, Duckstation is still under development and getting updates hre and there, if youve got the development branch active.

Hi
I was using Ubuntu mate 18 and upgraded to 20 using the software update tool and it worked well. Epsxe was working well in 18 but now I get errors,
./epsxe_x64: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.1.0.0:
How do I find what package libcrypto is part of and install it?
I think maybe some libraries got removed when I did the upgrade.
I know there is an emulator in the repo's but its not as good as epsxe
