5One of the Best Systems for Heavy Bags!

I just received mine very quickly on standard shipping and looks perfect. If you have a heavy bag you need to get this system. It will make working out funner and harder at the same time. The cardio is tremendous and will get your heart rate up quickly and bust into a heavy sweat. I own several systems including p90x, the pit-crosspit- 20s, and Insanity. I use p90x as my main workout and add everything else in the mix in between days (I dont do yoga, kempo, or stretch on p90x). I will actually start doing the bas rutten right after the p90x workouts now and is way funner than the insanity workouts that i was doing for cardio. Dont get me wrong, insanity is great cardio but very repetitive and will wear your knees. The pit is also very good but it does not have as much bag work as Bas Rutten. In The Pit, you will be doing lots of bodyweight pushups, squats, burpees, then throwing you on the bag which is a very effective workout on its own. But the Bas Rutten has definitely exceeded my expectations and is tremendous for getting your heart into shape. And by the way, listening to the audio rather than watching it on the TV like other systems has also impressed me. You can just concentrate on the bag.

Two words: BUY IT!!!

I checked Sherdog Forums to see what was the most recommended MMA training DVD before I bought Bas'. All of the reviews were 5 star so I went for it and have not been disappointed.

There is one introductory DVD where Bas goes through all of the routines - punches, kicks, knees, sprawls, pushups, abs, combinations, squat jumps, tuck jumps, mountain climbers, neck bridges, curls, etc. - that are on his remaining 4 audio CDs.

The four CDs cover: boxing, thai boxing, all around workout and all around fighting.

They are structured as follows.

Bas calls out combinations and/or exercises in rapid fire sequence and you follow the CD for the entire workout. The sequences are broken out into 2 and 3 minute drills.

You can mix/match routines to your heart's content.

For example you can start with a 2 min round of boxing, then the next round do the all around workout for 2 or 3 minutes, etc.

Each workout can be done on a heavy bag, using focus mitts, with a partner or shadow boxing.

I added the CDs to my IPOD and use them regularly.

Let me tell you BAS WILL KICK YOUR ASS WITH THESE ROUTINES!!

These CDs will improve not only your conditioning but reflexes and sparring/fighting skills.

As an added bonus, Bas' personality is such that he keeps the CDs fun and interesting.

5Helped Save My Life at 46 Years of Age

May 2012, 5'10" 271 lbs, 46 years old, so sick could barely get out of bed, diagnosed with diabetes, bad thyroid, told would be on medication for both for rest of my ife. Issues had gone unchecked and wreaked havoc in other areas like my gut. Although I had been an athlete through college and worked in a field that required me to be physically fit for 10 years after, I had spent the last several years endulging in all the things I had given up to live fit. It was glorious! and it almost killed me.

When I got the news, I initially felt sorry for myself, unbelieving that I had done such damage. It was my 8 year old daughter that intervened just at the right time in our lives again. I tried not to talk about my health with my wife when my daughter was around, but she must have heard something, because when I was sitting in the living room looking at a piece of paper, she sat down next to me and said "I don't want anything to happen to you daddy". Anybody that knows me and also loves their children, will understand the affect that had on me, as she looked me in the eyes. I assured her that daddy will be alright, hugged and kissed her and sent her happily on her way. I looked at the piece of paper and wrote "Shut up, get up and move!" That became my mantra. No excuses, stand the hell up and do something about it. I decided to do it naturally, without medication, using nutrition and exercise. Here is how I did it.

I love Bas Rutten. Watched him for years, he's older than I am, one of the best and hardest hitting fighters on the planet, taught himself ground fighting and submissions. I don't get swooney over celebrity, but he'd definitely be someone I would enjoy meeting and learning from, even at my age. As you would guess, I also like MMA. I'm no fighter, purely a fan, but I needed to exercise and knew it had to interest me. So I searched on Amazon. I love you too Amazon. I get amazing things I would never find otherwise. If this begins to sound like I'm endorsing things here, you're exactly right.

When I got Bas's workouts, I could barely do 20 minutes on a treadmill. 18 months later I still find it a challenge to complete an entire workout, But! I now weigh 208 lbs (lost and kept off 63 lbs), reversed my diabetes and my thyroid is running like a champ. I haven't looked or felt this good since playing college football and I have better abs! 3x a week, 30 minutes a day + good nutrition. Remember to consult a professional to determine your health, then decide your treatment for yourself.

Food! Can we stop BSing about food? The reality is if it isn't real food, it's processed and it isn't doing anything good for you. Doesn't mean we can't indulge, should see me during the holidays, not like when I was 270 but I enjoy myself. Vote with your dollar! If we demand quality food from our retailers, that is what they will provide. If we keep buying crap, they'll be even more happy to provide as much as we want. Some retailers are already ahead of the curve, like Kroger (many different store names) Simple Truth products. They are doing their very best to provide us with great nutrition at an affordable price. If we invest in the food, we'll get it! Eating right is much less expensive or costly to our lives than being in poor health. Improve your health and quality of life and reduce healthcare costs by investing in good nutrition. If we ate ourselves there, we can eat ourselves back!

Here are some of my staples, you'll get the idea, research and edit to your liking, more importantly, your body's liking. I'm going to refer to organic, grass fed, sans growth hormones, etc, as "clean". Clean chicken, beef, halibut, salmon, sardines, almonds, pistachios, extra virgin garlic olive oil (use lightly as salad dresssing, on vegetables, drizzle on chicken and beef after grilling. I put it on almonds with some cayenne pepper, mix and eat. Kimchi, sauerkraut or some fermented vegetables, greek yogurt, zero everything, no more than 10 grams sugar per serving. Green leaf, red leaf, romaine lettuce, always ready in a large bowl in the fridge. Asparagus, broccoli, other greens. I eat mine raw with salt, a bit of cayenne and olive oil. Grilled asparagus too! Apples, blueberries, strawberries, berries I usually mix the the yogurt. Lots of water. No, soda, no sports drinks, no alcohol (usually), clean coffee. Kind bars! Best snacks ever, I get them sent to me from Amazon. Large variety, great low sugar choices with dark chocolate, my favorite, ingredients you can see and read. I eat 2-3 a day. Dark chocolate, sometimes I just want a piece. Delicious and you can find it with low sugar. real butter, potatoes, a couple times a week (I make my own hashbrowns), sea salt, cayenne pepper, garlic (at least a clove a day), onions, Fish oil, Superfood. This is an example of what's currently on my menu. we also go outside the house once in a while at a local bbq place that doesn't use sugar in their rubs for delicious ribs and chicken. It's not about cutting things out (except sugar and even worse sugar substitutes. I'd rather have a little bit of sugar than a substitute) it's about making good choices, which allow us to also enjoy some indulgences now and then. This is for life and you can adjust your nutrition when and how you need. I love food even more now!

Other notes: Superfood. I supplement my diet with something like (in order of cost) Dr. Shulze's SuperFood Plus, Vitamineral Green (both available on Amazon) and currently Athletic Greens. Get a Traeger grill, OMG! changed food for us. I went from burning everything I touched to a grill master and I have to give complete credit to Traeger. I can cook six chicken breasts and two steaks at the same time in 20-22 minutes and they are 100 times better than any restaurant around here. We have what my wife and daughter call "Steak night!" and we use the leftovers for lunches and dinners. Prepare your food in advance as much as possible.

Weight and diabetic issues: You must get the crap out of your intestines literally, you need to purge that stuff and it takes time. Eating well and things like the superfood, yogurt, garlic, onions and cayenne pepper will help. Take the superfood and the yogurt at different times than the garlic, onions, cayenne, etc. I took this part very seriously as my gut was a mess. A year and a half later, I'm just now starting to feel like I don't have to worry about my reaction to things. Within a year I had dropped 77 lbs and needed to add some healthy food back. My body didn't like it at first, but it's getting stronger and stronger. Hang in there.

Bas's workouts: Watch the instructional video. There are several workouts, but I've only gotten to the two all-around workouts. Start with 10-15 minutes 2x a week. Go at your own pace, do only what you can and build from there. When you have to step out of the workout, keep walking around. I do this in a single garage stall! Get something to do curls with, I use bodylastics resistant bands, also available on Amazon. Consider using a roller for sore muscles, youtube how to use it correctly. Bas's workout is short and highly effective, you can substitute different exercises, just remember, the exercises you do, should mimic or help you with your day to day life. Movement must have a purpose. Follow Bas's routine first though before you experiment. Never skip any of the lower body exercises, if you have to walk for a minute, do it during something else. Have fun with it.

Don't underestimate the influence we have over our children and those around us, sometimes they just need to see someone do it. My daughter not only gave up oreo cookies on her own (her favorite and crack for kids), she takes steak/chicken and salad to school for lunch and has superfood everyday in the morning. She still has kid food, but we try to make it as healthy as possible and she's on board.
