Anno 1503: The New World (released as 1503 A.D.: The New World in North America) is a 2002 construction and management simulation video game developed by Austrian developer Max Design and published by Sunflowers Interactive. Part of the Anno series, it is a direct sequel to Anno 1602, the most commercially successful German video game ever by 2002. Anno 1503 revolves around building and maintaining a 16th-century colony in the New World.

Anno 1503 begins with the player in control of a ship filled with men and material searching for an island to settle. After finding a suitable site, city-building begins. Resources begin as food and cloth, but progress into more complicated and different goods. Eventually, citizens become Aristocrats, and require at least ten different goods and numerous services, such as access to a large church or a bathhouse. The game is constructed around one human player and three computer AI players. As in Anno 1602, the AI is progressive, meaning that it advances along with the human player. The AI also has adjustable personalities, which the player customizes before the beginning of a game. Each different player, human or computer, is represented by a color.

The economy in Anno 1503 is built on providing different goods to colonist citizens. It begins with the creation of cheap goods, and progresses in civilization levels throughout the game leading to more advanced goods. Since the game is built on different levels of civilizations (pioneer, settler, citizen, merchant, aristocrat), each successive civilization level requires more goods and more balancing of skills and finesse.

Technology in Anno 1503 begins on the pioneer level. After giving citizens basic goods like food, cloth, and alcohol, they develop into settlers, the second civilization level. The second level allows the player's settlers to build more advanced buildings; however, settlers also require more goods to stay alive. Buildings in the game do not necessarily have a specific function for the player, but have an implied or effective function for settlers in the game. Building abilities are amplified with expansion, meaning larger populations have more effective building powers.

Commercial expectations for Anno 1503 were high, as its predecessor, Anno 1602, was the German market's all-time best-selling video game by 2002. Retailers pre-purchased 450,000 units of the game ahead of its launch,[3] and it became a hit that "dominated" the charts in German-speaking countries during its first months of release, according to 4players.[4] It debuted at #1 on GfK's weekly computer game sales charts for the German market,[5] following the title's release on October 25.[1] Anno 1503 proceeded to claim first place on German firm Media Control's chart for the month as a whole,[6] after reaching domestic sales of 115,000 units during its first three days.[7][1] Tim Pototzki of GamesMarkt wrote that the game's early performance "astonished" Germany.[7] The Verband der Unterhaltungssoftware Deutschland (VUD) soon awarded the game "Gold" status, indicating sales of at least 100,000 units across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.[8] Anno 1503 finished its first seven days with a total of 160,000 sales in the German market,[9] and went on to hold the #1 position on GfK's charts in its second and third weeks.[10][11]

So, I want to get Anno 1503 into a pretty specific way into the Window, with far less little annoyances that occur, but also might be just a Config-Issue on my side.
And I have a Feature Request (or it might already exist?) and a Bug.

Well, to begin I whish to understand this apparent contrast between a "dockable window" and a "window that use the Whole Space (Including Frame) but spare the Taskbar". If the game use the whole space, how could it be undocked and moved around?
In any case, let's start from a common ground. I assume this:
1) you are using the latest DxWnd release v2.05.14
2) the game is Anno 1503 GOG release (I don't know if it is important, it could be but right now this is what I have already installed on my HD). Please tell me if you have a different distribution (Steam? CD?)
3) Your OS is Win10 64bit (same as mine, the most common all over the world I think)
4) You import the attached export file (remember to update the game path!) and check the result.

Playing some Anno 1503 (History Edition) out of nostalgia. I run out of tools before I could build a iron smelter, but I got a tool shop and I found someone to trade me iron.
Now after the tool shop got working the first tools produced immediately disappeared.

The key to anno is patience (in the beginning)Food
Leather
booze...(forget salt for a while)don't expand beyond 20 houses until you understand how things work
together. go slow. learn.I have one game with 2,000,000 dollars in the bank.AND... once you do have a games that's making money, even a little
bit... you can leave the computer on... and go to sleep!!! In the
morning the tooth fairy will have increased your bank balance.Cheers

You make money by selling goods to your population.
But, you effectively pay for your total production
*capacity*, not effective production. The margins
are not infinite, generally 50 to 100%. So, you
have to produce enough goods for your population
but not more than 50% excess (preferably none).
Also, you have overhead for markets, churches,
building material production, and the like. Build a little
production at a time so you don't go too far over.Salt is always a moneyloser at the start as a salt
mine feeds 3000 pioneers. Don't build it until you
have the reserves to build some stuff to satisfy
your future population (lots of tools and brick,
or money to build and operate tool and brick production,
which become profitable then. Don't bother with a church
until then, either. Your population will almost double
going from pioneer to settler and consume a lot of
tools and wood in the process. The advantage of a
salt mine is that it allows your population to become
settlers, allowing more efficient food (cattle), alcohol
(hops), plus tobacco and spice. The sunflowers site has a chart of production rates.

"...after some testing we have found out that windows 7 has a few problems with the >scenes.cach and inselcache.txt (random generator)! these are two files at a neuinstalation >not exist and therefore there are no . Problem in our fall, taking over the old >installation, from eg xp, they must be two files are deleted. they are located here: C: \ >Program Files (x86) \ Anno 1503 \ Scenes C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Anno 1503 \ Scenes \ >Islands which were the original paths. now should go play again."

I have a Possible reasonable fix to run Anno 1503 on windows 10. Go to Regedit (look online if you need help), then double click on these folders as you find themHKEY_CURRENT_USER, SOFTWARE, MICROSOFT, Windows NT, CurrentVersion, AppCompatFlags, then layers. Now look for Anno 1503 entry (hope you have one there cuz I don't know how to help there), now in the Data section for Anno 1503 put this case sensitive info DWM8And16BitMitigation HIGHDPIAWARE WIN98 RUNASADMIN now run game in lowest display resolution 800x600?, the game will run at about 15-20FPS

The graphics on the board (and in the rest of the game) are all computerized--representations of various buildings, forests, and islands, presumably from the computer game Anno 1503. They're not spectacular, but are nice enough, and a nice tie-in to the computer game.

Klaus Teuber is best known for his best-selling The Settlers of Catan (1995). Like Settlers, Anno 1503 centers on the production of goods and the use of those goods in specific formulae to produce certain items. Unlike Settlers, Anno 1503 bases its goods production on a flat roll of one die, rather than a curved roll of two dice, and it also makes things more "fair" by only allowing each player to produce one good at a time--both features of another Teuber game, Starship Catan (2001).

Beside resource production, Settlers also features exploration, a popular topic in German games, among them Teuber's own Entdecker (2002). The exploration in Anno 1503 is very simplistic, but allows for some level of strategy and control.

Finally, Anno 1503 features one other main area of gameplay: unique buildings. Beyond the common, formulaic items that can be produced, the public buildings offer players the ability to expand in unique ways, that can't be duplicated by all their opponents. This was, of course, a feature of Puerto Rico (2002).

Which is all to say that there's not a lot original in Anno 1503, but there is a lot of repetition and combination of good elements, done skillfully. Of all the games noted, it's the most like the lesser known Starship Catan, but in general level of skill and thought required, it's right around the level of The Settlers of Catan--perhaps less elegant, but a more thoughtful game.
