Tragic Incident and a Valuable Lesson: Rethinking Education:
Do you remember a horrific incident that occurred 10 years ago?
A group of students from VNR Vignana Jyothi Engineering College in Hyderabad went on an industrial tour to Himachal Pradesh. On June 8, 2014, they visited the Beas River to take photos. Unbeknownst to them, a dam's gates were opened, releasing a massive amount of water. Despite warnings from onlookers, the students didn't take heed, and the powerful current swept them away.
The Importance of Common Sense and Life Skills:
This incident highlights the lack of common sense and life skills among students. Many students are educated but lack practical knowledge and awareness about natural disasters, first aid, and self-defense.
Parents and educators focus on academics, marks, and ranks, but neglect essential life skills.
What Can We Do Differently?
- Teach life skills: Educate students about natural disasters, first aid, self-defense, and financial literacy.
- Promote common sense: Encourage students to think critically and make informed decisions.
-Foster Indian values: Instill values like respect, empathy, and responsibility in students.
- Practical education: Include practical skills and real-world applications in education.
Conclusion:
Let's rethink our education system and prioritize life skills, common sense, and Indian values. By doing so, we can empower students to face life's challenges and make informed decisions.
Let's work together to create a more well-rounded and prepared generation.
