Gotta happen.  :)

Perhaps a few categories, like "Best Overall" "Debut Albums", "Best Comebacks", "Soundtracks/Compilations", "Reissues", etc.?

Wow, so I went searching on excellnetonline.com and found the last poll results:  http://www.excellentonline.com/story/2007-poll-results-1365

Should we trim this list?  Here are my suggestions for removal:

 - Indieboy/Indiegirl/Indiegit seem a bit silly these days.
 - And maybe we can scratch the Favorite North American Artist.  The whole UK in US thing is also dated, IMO.
 - All the Electronic categories and the Producer category.
 - Music Video?  No one watches videos.  :)

ARTIST OF THE YEAR:

THE TOP 50 ALBUMS OF THE YEAR:

THE TOP 25 SONGS OF THE YEAR

REISSUE/COMPILATION/SOUNDTRACK OF THE YEAR:

YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS (STILL AROUND:)

Exactly.  It totally feels like homework these days.  :)

We should just have 10 best albums, 10 best songs.  That's it.

I'm guessing the number of members polled would have also dropped. 10 for each is a good number.

"...and in the whole half-century long history of rock music there is a small number of bands, a number so small you could count to it without running out of fingers, who steal your heart and become a part of how you see the world, how you tell and understand the truth, even when you're old and deaf and foolish. On your deathbed you'll hear them sing to you as you drift down the tunnel."

after looking at that massive list, i realized how busy and broke my year has been.  i'm sure 2-4 of records on that list could have been on here......but i haven't even had the chance to be play em....sad.  the new Manics & editors are still in their shrink wrap from months ago!!!!

how's the new Vampire Weekend???  a ton of sites are putting it in their top ten.  i didn't bother picking it up after hearing that first single......

My own list...though there's plenty from 2013 I have yet to tackle....

01. Savages - Silence Yourself
02. Ski Lodge - Big Heart
03. Suede - Bloodsport
04. Sulk - Graceless
05. The So So Glos - Blowout
06. Fonda - Sell Your Memories
07. the Bryan Ferry Orchestra - The Jazz Age
08. Murray A. Lightburn - MASS_LIGHT
09. Villagers - Awayland
10. Duologue - Song & Dance

In terms of disappointments.....The Veils latest, was really expecting/hoping for something epic. The same with Emiliana Torrini. Both were disjointed and passionless. ...

Keen eye, Derek - I did indeed forget the Kitchens Of Distinction record and debated with whether a few of Charles' list should have been included too (the Bryan Ferry record, in particular). I'm sure I missed some pure indie releases by bands who only put their physical stuff out in their home country/territory as well. Nearly overlooked I Used To Be A Sparrow that way, and did in fact miss the latest Adam Franklin as well.

Maybe we can take a few days and wait for a few more folks on the list to trickle in their "what about _____?" emails, then put the official poll together?

Greetings from Brooklyn!

"What about...?!?!?"  :)  I have found 2013 to be a pretty, pretty, pretty magical year for new music, and this beautifully compiled list is testament to this.  Thank you so much!

I do have a couple of additions for consideration, though.  (1) The latest Elf Power is easily in my top 3 for the year. (2) Also, did anyone have time to give The Greek Theatre out of Sweden a listen?  I felt like it was a 1979 listening to a.m. transistor radio on a hot July night on the front porch with a bottle of ice-cold Orange Crush-type of wonderful (and Ken Stringfellow's being involved never hurt anyone).

Best,
Erin...
