Most of the ribbon interaction works with callback to your code that you set up in the .xml file. This page is a reference to all the callbacks: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa722523(v=office.12).aspx

For the comboBox you'd use 'getItemCount' and 'getItemLabel' to supply the entries.
