How to install Add-in on Excel

Hello, 

I am totally new to coding and Excel Add-ins, so I'm sorry if this is a pretty basic/beginner consultation. I downloaded the folder from git-hub but I don't know what should be the next step to use it on Excel (or if this is even possible at this point). I tried the traditional instructions for installing an Add-in on Excel but the format needed isn't available. 

I would really appreciate some guidance here since I'm truly lost. All I need is to use the xlookup function in Excel 2019.

OK great – the XFunctions add-in is a bit of an experiment, so I haven’t really figured out the setup and stuff nicely.

 

But please try it – I’ll try to give some instructions for installing.

 

• To get the XFunctions add-in, go to the releases page here:

https://github.com/Excel-DNA/XFunctions/releases

 

The last test version there is “Excel-DNA XFunctions v0.5-beta”

You’ll see the two add-in files listed under ‘Assets’

 

 

• You need to figure out which of the two files ExcelDna.XFunctions.xll or ExcelDna.XFunctions64.xll you need.

This depends on whether your Office installation is 32-bit or 64-bit.

You can determine this, inside Excel go to File-> Account-> About Excel. Look at this information at the top:

 

I have the 32-bit version of Excel, so I need ExcelDna.XFunctions.xll.

 

• Once the right file is downloaded (in any convenient directory), you can open it in Excel by double-clicking or going File-> Open, and the XFunction should be there.

 

• Finally you can install it as an add-in in Excel, so that it will be available every time you use Excel.

The easiest way to do this is to press Alt+t, i (hold down Alt and then press “t”, followed by the letter “i”) to get the Excel add-ins dialog.

 

Here you Browse and add the .xll file.

 

You can also reach this dialog via File -> Options -> Add-Ins -> Manage: Excel Add-Ins: Go.

 

Please write back if you find some gaps in these instructions, and have any problems.
