Issues using Addin on another machine

Hi guys,

I created an addin using C# which had been working perfectly fine on both 32 and 64 bit machines. The name I gave it is FIAnalytics(stay with me here). Now with the machine I created it on I have absolutely no issues whatsoever, it uses 32Bit excel and works fine either in Debug mode or as a standalone addin. I copied the xll files over to another windows 10 machine using 64 Bit excel and has been working flawlessly for months. All of a sudden today when the addin loads excel changes the name from FIAnalytics to Fianalytics. Strange behavior, so I then tried to use the packed version letting excel copy it into my local Addins directory and I get an exception thrown on the Auto_Open(). Even when I recompile takin the Auto_Open() out still does not work but it works on the machine using to code.

Any ideas or thoughts please?

DNA File:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<DnaLibrary Name="FIAnalytics Add-In" RuntimeVersion="v4.0">

  <ExternalLibrary Path="FIAnalytics.dll" ExplicitExports="false" ExplicitRegistration='true' LoadFromBytes="true" Pack="true" IncludePdb="false"/>

</DnaLibrary>

This is the content of packages.config.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<packages>

  <package id="ExcelDna.AddIn" version="1.1.1" targetFramework="net472" developmentDependency="true" />

  <package id="ExcelDna.Integration" version="1.1.0" targetFramework="net472" />

  <package id="ExcelDna.Interop" version="14.0.1" targetFramework="net472" />

  <package id="ExcelDna.Registration" version="1.0.0" targetFramework="net472" />

Thank you

Joe

One thing I forgot to add. I download from GITHub the ExcelDna-0 test and that too did not work on the 64Bit machine.

Hi Joe,

Can you perhaps figure out what the exception is?

I’m not sure what you tried here, but you might download the files ExcelDna64.xll and ExcelDna64.dna from here https://github.com/Excel-DNA/ExcelDna/tree/master/Distribution

And then check whether you get an “AddThem” function.

You might consider what changed on the machine that could interfere, e.g. an Office or anti-virus update or GPO settings change.

My general sequence of tracking this down would be:

  • Check whether a simple Excel-DNA add-in work (like the ExcelDna64.xll from above)
  • If it does, make it closer to your problem add-in in steps.
  • If it does not, try a native .xll add-in, to see whether something is blocking all .xll add-ins.

Hi All,

Dont ask me what happened as I have no idea. After trying every possible combination of this I just have no idea what went wrong. Now it works! Even while I was pulling out my hair the AddThem function wasn't working either.
