Hello Govert,

Is it possible to remove or change the '(Ribbon Helper)' ribbon
tooltip text generated at the bottom of the ribbon tooltip, next to
the add-in name.

Even better, control over what is shown just above the 'Press F1 ...'
message would be great.

Even better still would be full control over the whole popup tip. I
have read however that Microsoft hard coded the 'Press F1 ...' message
to help people identify badly behaving, non-MS coded add-ins.

Thanks again,

Simon.

Hi Simon,

Ah I see!
I put that "(Ribbon Helper)" bit in to make the display in the add-in
box clearer. It is the description for the COM Add-In that Excel-DNA
registers on the fly. I hadn't noticed that it appears in the ribbon
tooltip before.
I'll remove the extra bit or make some plan for the next version
(http://exceldna.codeplex.com/workitem/6934).

(It's set in line 159 of ExcelDna.Integration\ExcelRibbon.cs, if you
want to make a custom version of Excel-DNA.)

The other parts of the tooltip popup are customised with "screentip"
and "supertip":
<button .... screentip="This is the screentip of button1"
supertip="This is the supertip of button1" />
and you can do a getSupertip callback.

(This looked like a useful series: http://ribbon.anirdesh.com/. Search
in the Google group for other links.)

You have to look for the Microsoft Ribbon documentation to know what
further customization of the ribbon Excel makes possible.

Regards,
Govert

Hello all,
In current version Excel-DNA.0.30.3 this additional tool-tip with text "MyAddinName Add-in Press F1 for add-in help"  appears,  I attach screenshot,
How can I disable it ?

Hi Sebastian,

The "Generate" region of the tooltip (above the dividing line) comes from the supertip and screentip attributes for the button in your ribbon xml.
The part below it displays the add-in name (which you can set) and a help message that cannot be customized. The name for an Excel-DNA add-in can be set in the .dna file:

<DnaLibrary Name="My Cool Tool" .. >

Under Excel 2013 there is a link saying "Tell me more" instead of the F1 message.

You can't disable the bottom part of the tooltip, but there is an Excel option to disable all tooltip. That seems like a bad idea though.

Regards,
Govert

Hello Govert,
Thanks for quick reply.
Yes, I have tooltip and super tooltip : <button id="btnGenerate" image='M' size='large' onAction='OnGenerateButtonPressed'  getLabel='GetLabel1'  screentip='My button tooltip' supertip='Desription my button - supertooltil ' />
but I don't want to have this bottom region with "my addin name Press F1 for add-in help"

Can I  disable only it (with not disabling normal tooltip and supertooltip) ?

Regards,
Sebastian

No - you can't disable the bottom part of the tooltip.

To be clear - Office does not expose any way to hide or customize that part of the tooltip.

Hi,
Is it possible to link my help to this "tooltip".. i mean if user press F1, he will see some add-in online help.. and additionally is it possible to show context online help in that case?

Hi Anton,

It would a nice improvement to suggest for future Office versions.

Of course 'impossible' is relative - see this dangerous and performance-damaging workaround: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/463282/Custom-Ribbon-Help-for-Office-VSTO-Add-ins
