Making the Journey, Fourth Edition: Being and Becoming a Teacher of English Language Arts PDF ~ Making the Journey Fourth Edition: Being and Becoming a Teacher of English is the most recent text-format version of this classic work. In this text edition, Martha N. Johnson has completely revised and updated it to include all the material written in the previous editions, as well as new material, concerning the issues facing teachers today. In fact, the focus of this text-format edition is to emphasize the need for teachers of all disciplines to be critical thinkers, in order to help students improve their writing skills, and to develop a deeper understanding of the concepts used in the study of language. At the same time, the focus is on teachers' role as mentors and role models to their students. In a sense, this text has been made tailored to meet the needs of a contemporary classroom. It addresses issues facing both teachers and students, focusing particularly on teaching strategies for the early years of a student's learning and teaching students how to use multiple strategies in order to structure and organize their essays.
The four parts of this text edition deal with the process of learning English as a Second Language (ESL). Parts one and two address the basics of how to learn English, introducing topics such as the alphabet and the sounds associated with certain letters, the words and phrases that constitute English grammar, and the various grammatical elements found in the English language. Parts three and four deal more closely with the skills involved in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). The book starts by outlining the different ways by which ESL can be taught, including basic teaching methods, strategies for ESL instruction, ESL teaching materials, and concluding with some useful teaching tips for ESL instructors. It also includes some recommended reading and other selected information on ESL.
The Making the Journey Fourth Edition: Being and Becoming a Teacher of English provides teachers with the information they need to implement strategies that will help students master the skills needed to succeed in an ESL environment. It contains an extensive introduction on the teaching process, teaching skills, and incorporating teacher-based learning into the classroom. The text goes on to offer some case studies and considerations for designing an effective classroom and the challenges teachers may face in their classrooms, and it includes recommended resources and suggestions for completing ESL courses. The text closes by giving teachers a concise summary and a description of what to expect in the next ESL class.

Review Making the Journey, Fourth Edition: Being and Becoming a Teacher of English Language Arts
This is the fifth in the Review Making the Journey series. I have always felt that this series goes beyond just teaching and writing. Being a teacher, who has also taught many students across many different levels of education, has always been my focus. However, as I have watched some of my students grow into adults, I have begun to see how much there is to do in the "mentor-apprentice" business model. So, I have decided to make this series a series of books on every topic you can imagine - teaching and learning, life skills and habits, business skills and habits, and then habits and leadership.
In the fifth edition, I wanted to really dig deep into each chapter and cover each one as best I could. I spent several months writing and reading every book on the original Journey series. What I found is there is much to learn about teaching and mentoring. One thing that surprised me was that some of the most valuable information I gained while writing this fifth edition is from students who are mentoring other students today. The next several articles will introduce you to some of the great topics covered in the new fifth edition of Review Making the Journey.
In the first chapter, we cover preparation. In the second chapter, we look at your personality type. In the third chapter, we explore leadership styles. In the fourth chapter, I introduce you to some tools that will help you be a more effective leader.
In the fifth edition, there is a new chapter on being a student/leader. I like that this book is now divided into chapters focusing on different aspects of becoming a student/leader. This way, you can read one of the chapters first to familiarize yourself with the concepts and key terms and then continue on with the rest of the chapters.
There are four major areas that this fifth edition covers. In the introduction, you are introduced to the book and introduced to the concept of Learning. You will learn about the concept and learn how it applies to you. Learning is the process of acquiring new knowledge and skills. The main purpose of learning is to acquire new knowledge and skills necessary for successful living.
The next chapter covers Types of Learning. The types of learning are important for learners. In this fifth edition, the author provides some insight as to why some types of learning are important and others are not. You will learn what type of learning will best fit your personality, interests and abilities. The types of learning include reading, writing, listening, seeing, and walking.
The third chapter addresses how to make the journey meaningful. The fifth edition focuses on what your personal journey is. What do you hope to achieve? Why are you making the journey and what can you expect?
The last chapter addresses how to store the book. Storing the book is important so that you can read it when you want and do not have to travel to the library or other location. The fifth edition of the book includes over forty pages of colorful photos, recipes and short stories. There are also eleven pages of clear and concise information about each of the sections of the book. This fifth edition of Learning is a great addition to anyone's library.
The author updates the material in the fifth edition with additional material not found in previous books. There are eleven new chapters including: Relationships and the Law of Attraction, Excitement, The Power of Doubt, Aging, Creativity and the Law of Seeing, Business Planning, Empowerment, History, Money, Networking and Scheduling. Other topics include: Types of Learning, How to Make the Journey, and How to Keep it Going. The book contains fifty-four pages of new material and one new chapter.
This book continues to inspire and instruct. It will keep the readers engaged and interested through the entire book. The author continues to address important issues in today's society. Issues such as divorce, weight gain, depression, substance abuse, and body image. In this fifth edition, Leanne Brightman provides additional guidance for women in the workplace and for women trying to establish their own individuality and independence. The author's expertise and her love of life as a wife and mother support this message.
This is a text book with many sound advice and practical application suggestions. It is a simple read that will benefit anyone's daily life. It will make the journey into the fifth edition of Making the Journey more fun and effective. If you are looking for a motivating book, this may be just the right one.
