The most logical solution was to establish Caldera Systems as the premier Linux brand. Without the threat from Red Hat, transitioning resellers from SCO to Caldera Systems would be much easier. With this in mind Ransom Love formed an alliance of large business oriented Linux distributions which utilized the KDE desktop, called United Linux. The alliance comprised Caldera International, SUSE Linux, Turbolinux, and Conectiva. Filings from Novell in the SCO Group SCO v. Novell lawsuit showed that this was more than simply a marketing gimmick, and was a real alliance.[32]

By default, a self signed certificate is used for the SSL encryption. Replace the self-signed certificate at /caldera/plugins/ssl/conf/insecure_certificate.pem with your own if desired.

What is the professionally expected location that I should put that 'cloned' source code? I googled around a bit to get a better grasp of what the various linux directories are for.. but.. I need a good SO answer... so... where would you put it?

I just bought a new monitor and I am trying to get it to play nicely with my linux laptop. At the moment I can only get output to appear on at most the laptop screen, my new display and one of my old displays. I am trying to get output to appear on my new display and two of my old displays, and not the laptop screen.

First, I recommend you compile a base kernel including all essential capabilities for your system without modules. I know this sounds like we are going backwards, but you don't want to lose the ability to boot up because you messed up your modules. The README in /usr/src/linux is your guide, but basically you execute the command:

The important addition to lilo.conf is the last section (#base kernel) which tells LILO about your new kernel. Also, be sure lilo.conf has prompt and timeout lines. Now execute lilo and then reboot. LILO will pause, giving the prompt boot:. If you hit TAB, you will be given the choices linux and base. Enter base and your new kernel will boot. You may get complaining messages about bad module dependencies, but if your base kernel is complete, that shouldn't bother you. If something goes wrong, reboot and enter linux (or just wait through the timeout interval) and your old kernel will boot. Make sure you have a working base kernel before proceeding. With this approach, you never burn your bridges (or kernel) behind you.
