NIT Warangal, which is now a leading premier institute of higher technical education, started from a humble beginning in the year 1959, and has ever since been imparting technical education of the highest standards. The foundation stone of our institute was laid by the first Prime Minster of the India, Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, on 10th October 1959. The institute has the distinction of being the first among the chain of RECs (Regional Engineering Colleges) in the country. Our alumni are spread far and wide, within and outside the country, occupying highly respectable positions in various fields of life. The institution was declared as an Institution of National Importance by an act of Parliament and renamed as National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal in the year 2004. We have been attracting the best students from all over the country, admitted through a tough Joint Entrance Examination for all the IITs and NITs. We have also been attracting students from almost 40 countries. Presently about 5500 including 600 international students are on our rolls. NIT Warangal offers eight B.Tech programmes, twenty five M.Tech programs, five M.Sc., one MCA, one MBA programme and Doctoral programmes in all faculties of Engineering, Sciences, Management and Humanities. Almost all the B.Tech and M.Tech programmes offered by NIT Warangal have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. I am proud to say that ours is the only NIT to have won this distinction. The Institute is proud to be selected for international collaborations at several stages of its existence. We are one of the leading performers under the GIAN (Global Initiative for Academic Network) program, conducting as many as 58 programs with internationally renowned resource persons, and the best performer among all the NITs and ahead of many IITs. The UK-India RECs project was implemented during 1994-98 for developing infrastructure in IT theme. The World Bank assisted project TEQIP-I (2004-08), TEQIP-II (2010-14) and TEQIP-III (2017-date) for strengthening PG and Research education, is currently in progress. Diamond Jubilee Celebrations will be inaugurated by our Honorable Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu on 8th October 2018.
