It’s obvious to me that the current incarnation of Textdrive is in no way equivalent to the lifetime hosting plans many of us purchased through numerous rounds of VC offers at Textdrive and Joyent. In retrospect, many of us would have preferred the cash buy-out offered by joyent instead of this dysfunctional hosting service.
I know for a fact that many have experienced significant loss of productivity from a poorly handled and incomplete transition, even those of us with a good backup strategy. So what next?
I’ve heard a lot of talk about an exit strategy to a better hosting environment. It occurs to me that there is more strength in numbers than in individuals. Buying power, better hardware and responsive support options.
Here's a modest proposal:
I’m
currently hosted in excellent smartOS environment with responsive
support. I’d like to invite members of this community who are interested
in cost-sharing on this hosting environment to contact me if you’d like
to learn more.
I’ve set up a dedicated email (txd-...@dalechapman.com) for this purpose. Please contact me off-forum.
More detail
It
won't be snake-oil and it won't be free. It WILL be rock solid and will
be completely cost-transparent (budgets will be public so you know
where every dollar goes in the picture). We’ll take things
incrementally, never accepting more people than can comfortably be
accommodated by the hardware and live support.
