Am I the only one who thinks that it's been a little bit blown out of
proportion?

Yes I do! It's just a little ridiculous isn't it? Brand's getting a
bit of a rough time of it at the moment. Though did they swear on air?
I find that a bit odd when it was pre-recorded. I still think radio is
really behind when it comes to censorship. I don't know the details
but you seem to be able to get away with a lot more on television.

oh, i don't know. but then I'm not a 78 year old granda getting
obscene and upsetting phone messages. i find brand pretty loathsome
and not very funny, so he's getting nae sympathy from me. i sure
wouldn't have liked to be on the receiving end of those 'funny' 'phone
calls.

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not sympathising with Brand, he was silly
enough to make the phone calls. However it's not simply just his
fault. This show was pre-recorded, that means someone suggested the
idea, someone else thought it was a good idea, someone decided to let
it go ahead and then no one edited it out. Plus Jonathan Ross said the
bulk of the comments!

I'm a subscriber the Brand podcast. It's a very funny, but rather 'on
edge' programme. However...

1. It was Ross' idea to keep phoning up. Why isn't he getting grief?
2. Yes, it is an offence to make prank phonecalls - so why did the
Beeb broadcast them?
3. 10,000 people phoned in about the calls. How many of them actually
listened to the podcast?
4. Whilst the Prime Minister sees the finanicial markets collapse
around his ears, he decides to comment instead on a rather trivial
comedy programme.
5. Sachs actually gave his permission to play the recordings before
the broadcast when contacted by the show's producer.

Am I not the only one seeing the hypocrisy and parallels with the
BrassEye furore???

Yep I agree with everything there Amir! Tonight it was the main item
on BBC News. You got Gordon Brown's opinion, David Cameron, a guy at
the BBC, someone in the studio- it's ridiculous! Only two people
complained at the time! Two! I find it very bizarre that people are
complaining about a radio show they haven't even listened to but have
read in the papers.

absolutely it's gotten way out of hand. when gordon brown et al
should be mortified that UN peacekeepers have been driven out the DRC,
leaving an already embattled population in the hands of vicious
rebels, they're mithering with this purile nonsense. but then it's
just a distraction from everything else that's happening in the world
and politicians love a distraction.

i don't think you can compare it to the brasseye furore (you mean the
pedophile one?) that episode was at least trying to say something
clever about the media.

i think what might be pissing folk off is that brand doesn't seem to
be particularly contrite or genuine in his apologies.

Brand and Ross suspended. This has reached new levels! I really
thought the BBC were going to stand strong on this one.

That said it is good to hear about something other than the credit
crunch for a couple of days.

blimey! it's just gotten ridiculous. who's going to do film 2008?!

i've listened to the podcast and to be honest, the first call wasn't
that bad, but they just couldnae leave it alone, if they had, i'm sure
they'd have gotten away with it - it just sounds like two wee boys
trying to out-do each other. i thought brand's apology song when he
sings about the grandaughter's menstral cycle close to the mark and
then at the end when they talk about w*nking sachs off tips it over
the edge.

ach, naebody died; it'll blow over eventually - great publicity for
the satanic sluts though!

Maybe we'll get the people who actually write the reviews in front of
the camera for a bit! If Russell Brand is captain on Never Mind The
Buzzcocks this week does that mean they're not going to show that?
They're messing with my telly viewing now!

I haven't heard the show yet. Might take a listen this evening.

I heard Andrew Sachs on the radio this afternoon being literally
confronted by the press - he actually didn't seem THAT bothered about
it, it came across that as long as the two gave an apology to Sachs,
his family and his grand-daughter in particular, then that was pretty
much fine.

Notice the Grand-daughter's been in the press too, milking it for all
it's worth. Cue mock-shock that doing the horizontal folk dance with
Russell 'All Over The Press' Brand might result in a bit of press
hysteria...

It seems like nobody's noticed that war seems to have pretty much have
broken out in the Congo...

Have you heard it? I listened to it yesterday on some blog, it's
pretty dull but noteworthy that Ross is the one who says The Bad Thing
and Brand is the one saying "even if this is edited from the show it's
still on his answer machine..."*

(*Not the BBC's opinion there, obviously...)

Exactly Rowan, exactly. We have a another potential genocide on our
hands, and Russell Brand's taking flak from Daily Mail reading idiots.

I subscribe to the podcast, and clearly Brand was trying to apologise,
whilst Ross was making the lewd comments - with Brand trying to make
it a joke and lessen the impact.

Poor bloke. He'll go to C4 and Hollywood and make millions.
