Dr. S. R. Lasker Library is celebrating International Open Access Week from October 23–29, 2023. This global event, now marking its seventeenth year, empowers Open Access advocates to engage their communities, enlighten them about Open Access, share their experiences, and inspire wider adoption of Open Access as the standard in scholarship and research.

Originating in 2007 as Open Access Day, this event began as a collaborative effort between the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and students who hosted local events at a few campuses in the United States. Since its inception, International Open Access Week has seen significant growth and is now celebrated at countless venues around the globe. 

Each year, Dr. S.R. Lasker Library takes immense pride in celebrating this week with heightened zeal.

The theme for Open Access Week 2023 is "Community over Commercialization". For a deeper understanding of this international observance, please visit Open Access Week.

In alignment with this, Dr. S. R. Lasker Library has outlined a series of programs:

• An awareness-building campaign on "Open Access Publishing Practices" will be disseminated to the university community through the library's social media platforms
• An Open Access Knowledge Competition centered on this year's theme, "Community over Commercialization"
• A discussion on “Opportunities and Challenges of Open Access Publishing” for faculty members, students, and the broader EWU community
