Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem running Ecopath. The software gave me a prompt that "diet for two groups does not sum to 1". But I checked my inputs and the diet compositions sum to exactly 1.

I'm new to EWE and would love to hear your advice! Thanks!

Hi Quinqin,

This is strange, but could be the result to a rounding error. If you want me to take a look at the model, please zip it and send it to ewede...@gmail.com and I'll figure out what is happening. It is always useful to capture new bugs before they proliferate.

Best,

The leading stanza is the stanza that you have best data for, from where the growth of other life stages is calculated. The leading stanza could be any life stage, really.

Hope this helps,
Jeroen

PS: I have cc-ed the entire list to this reply as the answer may be helpful to others.

Thanks Jeroen. I've solved this problem ( Ecopath changed the diet because the cannibalism rate was too high).

I have another question about the multi-stanza groups. As the manual says, "You must enter baseline estimates of total mortality rate Z  and diet composition for each stanza, and biomass and consumption (Q/B) for one “leading” stanza only (the oldest stanza)". But I saw some examples where the biomass of youngest stanza was entered. So, I'd like to konw if the biomass and Q/B inputs depend on the availability of the data. Thanks!

Best,
Qinqin
