Hi all,

I am wondering if it is possible to easily share models I made in EwE with co-workers and if there is a way to work on those models together?

Thanks!

Hi Pauline,

EwE models are Access databases underneath. Yes, you can share those with others. A few things to be aware of:
  • Make sure that everyone uses the same version of the EwE software. Between EwE versions the database schema may change (new fields may be added etc), and when opening a model in a newer version of EwE, that model will be updated. Older versions of EwE can then no longer safely use the model
  • One cannot have the same model open in multiple instances of EwE; Access databases cannot handle multiple write events from different sources
  • For this same reason, be careful not to open a model while it's stored in OneDrive / Box / Sync / Dropbox etc. The file may be overwritten while you have it open, which could lead to loss of data

Sharing models between users via cloud storage systems is fine, but make edits on local copies and use a protocol to ensure that it is clear who is making changes at what time.

We'd love to make changes in this part of EwE we'd  need dedicated funding. EwE does not receive any core funding; we totally rely on contributions from the projects and the EwE user community to move forward.

I hope this helps,
Best wishes,

Jeroen

Thanks Jeroen!

I have another (hopefully very easy to resolve) problem. The software will not let me create an ecospace scenario even though I have a complete ecopath model and an ecosim scenario loaded. I have very little input in ecosim (essentially only a vulnerability matrix) so I am thinking that maybe I am missing some input there?

Would love your advice.
