reading and writing input and output values to external document -> connecting multiple EwE models

Dear all,

I am curious if it is possible to use an external document for input variables and also write results to this document? I am not sure if time-fitting is sufficient in my case.

The end goal is to connect multiple models with each other that represents an artificial ecosystems where 3 or more ponds are connected to each other. So there will be migration of phytoplankton and zooplankton between the ponds but no migration of fish. However the amount of migration will heavily depent on the productivity of each pond and so a 'normal immigration rate' is insufficient.

My guess is that reading and writing data to an external document will be of great help (although then I still need to run mulitple models simultaneously). Or perhaps there already exists a useful plugin?
Any help or other ideas are greatly appreciated.
