HELP!

Hi everyone,

I am new to EwE and am using it (or at least planning to) for a thesis project. I downloaded EwE 6.6 and Microsoft Access but when I try to open up a new model I get the warming message:

"The system does not have the required drivers installed to work with files of this type".

Or when I try to open an existing model (just the EwE server, not mine) the warning message says:

"Your system does not have the proper drivers installed to read the file format of model (...). Install the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable from the Microsoft website to use Access 2010 (ACCDB) databases"

I installed "Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable' but the problem persists. I am working on a 2014 Lenovo, Windows 10 and with the full Microsoft package that includes Microsoft Access.

Does anyone know what the problem might be and what can I do to fix it?

Hello Jeffrey,

This is a legacy problem with Microsoft Office. EwE (unfortunately still) relies on Microsoft Access drivers to access its models. The issue that you experience derives from a clash in bitness between Access and EwE.

If you run Microsoft Office in 32-bit, you must install the
Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable 32-bit too, and use EwE 32-bit. This allows all components to collaborate correctly. If you run office 64-bit, then both the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable and EwE both MUST be 64-bit as well.

This is a headache that we cannot change - one more reason we'd love to find the funding to move away from Microsoft Access once and for all.

Hope this helps,
Jeroen

Hi Ismet and Jeroen,

Thank you both for your replies. I’ve re-installed Microsoft, Access Database Engine and EwE all with 32-bit and it is now working as it should. It seems like, as you both pointed both, the difference in bitness was the culprit.

I really appreciate all the help!
