Workshop 3. The Design Process
12th February 2011, 2-5pm – Cambridge University
In the last workshop we heard from a number of projects that require technical assistance including:
JustMilk - A nipple shield which delivers antiretrovirals to infants while they suckle to prevent mother-to-child-transmission of HIV.
Alternative traction - A low cost traction system for the treatment of femoral fractures.
Transport system for women in labour in rural Afghanistan - A donkey saddle which supports women in labour in order for them to be transported to the nearest clinic.
Kamuli Hospital, Uganda - Various projects to improve the infrastructure and workings of Kamuli Hospital.
At the next workshop we will be taking these projects forward; forming teams and developing a business plan for the next steps. This is where we begin to get our hands dirty and start working on projects!
This workshop will be run by one of our members, Sebastien Cuvelier Mussalian from Team Consulting, a medical product design firm based just outside Cambridge (http://www.team-consulting.com/). Sebastien will be running through the principles of the product design process and facilitating practical team sessions to help move projects forward.
Don't worry if you missed the last workshop, the projects will be presented again and teams will be formed on the day. You will get a chance to hear from each of the projects before signing up to one of the teams. You will then work in these teams for the remainder of the workshop to develop a business plan, decide roles and responsibilities and agree within your teams your next steps.
In addition to the projects outlined above we welcome you to bring other projects you are working on and require assistance with. You will have the opportunity to present your project and form a team with other workshop participants.
