Join us for an exciting day of presentation, discussion and debate on what can we do in the UK and the rest of Europe to help meet UN objectives to improve energy efficiency and increase the share of renewables in the global energy mix.

In the morning hear from UK and European Ashden Award finalists on what works in helping us change how we use energy:

·         The National Trust on its ground -breaking programme to retro-fit its Welsh heritage properties.

·         England’s ‘greenest’ hospital on how they did it.

·         One of the most successful social media behaviour change campaigns in the UK.

·         A European city that is on its way from car grid-lock to cycle heaven.

·         A project that’s helping local communities realise the potential of wind.

·         A unique retrofit company is helping households transform the way they live.

·         Liftshare on sharing cars, saving money and enjoyable commutes.

In the afternoon International Ashden Award finalists will tell us how they are helping to make universal energy access a reality, including:

·         A global solar company using innovative distribution methods to reach rural customers

·         Organisations bringing micro-hydro brings power to communities as far afield as Afghanistan and Indonesia – not just electric power but income and opportunities.

·         Manufacturers of a low-cost water filter helping to combat deforestation.

·         An ethically-managed microfinance organisation promoting affordable energy access.

Richenda Van Leeuwen of the United Nations Foundation, will take ideas from the conference directly to Rio+20 so this is an afternoon which really counts.

Morning

Energy: promoting cultural and behaviour change

Can changing the energy culture of our organisations and the way we all use and generate power really help reach our carbon reduction targets? Is there such a thing as green travel? Come to the morning session, chaired by Jonathan Porritt, and find out.

Afternoon

Making universal energy access a reality

Making the right decisions at Rio+20 in June is critical if we are to make sustainable energy for all a reality. Some of our international finalists will tell us what they are doing to contribute to universal energy access – and challenging the decision-makers in Rio to make it achievable.
