EWB Team,
Is this something that our chapter would be interested in pursuing? Sounds like it may involve civil engineering (wastewater), soils engineering, and environmental. Parksley is on the Eastern Shore.

Subject: Town of Parksley, Va Wastewater Assistance
Hello Pete,
I am a wastewater technician with VRWA. Mike Lynn advised us that you/HRSD participate with EWB to assist financially challenged localities in eastern Virginia. I am engaged with Eastern Shore VDH and Parksley to address their wastewater treatment system with a spray irrigation discharge that is experiencing difficulties, resulting in a sewer connection moratorium. I am awaiting confirmation to be in Accomac/Parksley either next Tuesday or Wednesday or early January to gather more information on the exact issues; mechanical, process, operations, I/I, etc? The Town does not currently have an engineering consultant.
This may be somewhat premature but I wanted to reach out about the EWB program especially since HRSD already has involvement on the Eastern Shore(Onancock?) so EWB may possibly be a "tool" in assisting Parksley. Any information on how we could possibly engage you/HRSD would be appreciated.
Please feel free to call/email with any questions/insight.
Thanks.
Rodney

EWB Team,
I have two things I need to convey. First, I am sorry for the long period since I last attended a meeting. I’ve had a lot of things going on. The main item is that I am moving to Roanoke, VA. My wife took a great job out there, and I am leaving to meet her at the end of this week. I apologize for the late notice, but I needed to wait until my current company notified our current clients before I could announce this to everyone else.
I also recently received a follow-up voicemail from Rodney regarding this situation at the Town of Parksley. See attached. It sounds like they definitely will need some assistance, and is hoping that EWB can help. I would suggest someone getting in touch with Rodney to gain a better understanding of the project, and then the team determine whether or not to take this to EWB. I am willing to assist as I can from Roanoke, or suggest folks in the area that might be willing to help.
I will be coming back here periodically to assist with local work, so please copy me on your meeting invites. Maybe I can time my trips back to coincide with one of your meetings. You all have been a great group to hang out with, and I wish you the best of luck.
Pete
Rodney,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have been in the process of relocating to the western part of the state, and have had several things to juggle. I have forwarded this email, and your follow-up voicemail to folks with the Hampton Roads chapter of Engineers without Borders. Someone from that chapter will be following up with you over the next few weeks to see how EWB can assist. Thanks for reaching out, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that EWB can help you and Parksley.
