Hello EWB-HRP Members,
On October 10th we
held a social meeting at New Realm Brewing in Virginia Beach. We discussed our
options on finding a new project. Currently we are hoping to hear back from two
sources:
- EWB Guatemala office –
we’ve been told by Steve Crowe (Country Director) that there are more projects
in the pipeline for Guatemala but likely won’t be posted until January/February
at the earliest.
- Virginia Rural Water
Association – still waiting to hear back from our contact and the circuit riders
on potential projects in Virginia, east of I-95.
EWB Guatemala’s office
held another conference call with the ODU student chapter October 22nd.
Key points from the call are listed below:
- ODU chapter held a
community call with La Reforma on October 17th – will continue to
have calls on a monthly basis
- A surveyor is being
hired by EWB Guatemala to provide survey including house elevations.
- Continued effort by
ODU chapter and EWB Guatemala to prepare scope of work and cost estimate for
implementation.
- Preliminary pump sizes
for the different alternatives to be provided to EWB Guatemala by the ODU
chapter within two weeks.
- Guatemalan
municipality’s original plans were to contribute 25% of the project costs. With
5 municipal projects going into implementation in the next year, a meeting is
being held with the Mayor to confirm/update this expectation.
Our November
social/meeting will be at 6pm on the 14th at Quirks at 189
Central Park Ave in Town Center, Virginia Beach. Please come join us as we
discuss the ODU chapter project and potential new Professional chapter
projects.
Best regards,
EWB-HRP
