Hello EWB-HRP Members,

On January 9th we held a social meeting at Elation Brewing in Norfolk. We further discussed the two upcoming projects, one in Iredell County, North Carolina, and one in Parksley, Virginia.

The following is a status update for the NC project from CECorps Program Manager, Stephen Barr (SB...@awwa.org):

Project Leaders and Team Roster - Love Valley, NC (Iredell County)

Project Lead – Trenton Jackson (AWWA, Raleigh)

jack...@cdmsmith.com

Registered Engineer in Charge (REIC) – Dave Heiser (AWWA, Raleigh) heis...@cdmsmith.com

Dave and Trent will need your support as we kick things off with the community, and those introductions will be made shortly.  All of you have shown interest in the project or attended the workshop at the NC AWWA conference this last fall, and I’m hoping folks are still on board to help out.  In order to join up to the project team, I’d like you to reach out to David, Trent, and myself just indicating your intent to be a member of the team.  Prior to that, if you could make sure to register on volunteer village, we can then add you to our project file.  Please take the time to fill out your profile, specifically noting which organization you came to the project through (AWWA or EWB) and also making sure to upload a CV to your volunteer village profile (if you’ve signed up but forgotten your login info, just sign up at the link https://www.ewb-usa.org/volunteer-registration/.

I believe this link will still work as well:  https://www.communityengineeringcorps.org/current-opportunities/iredell-county-nc-engineering-technical-report-fieldwork-sanitation/

We plan to discuss updates and status of the project in Parksley, Virginia, at the February meeting.

The ODU student chapter has prepared a draft Alternative Analysis which is being reviewed by their Faculty Advisor and our chapter, before ultimately being submitted to EWB for their project in La Reforma, Guatemala. We are also currently coordinating a joint social with the ODU chapter likely to be in late February.

Our February planning meeting will be at 5:30pm Thursday February 13th (tonight) at the MSA office (5032 Rouse Dr Suite 100, Virginia Beach, VA 23462).

As a reminder, the EWB Hampton Roads chapter will participate in ODU’s Engineers Week:

Girls Night Out (#GirlEDay): Engineering organizations and societies will provide middle and high school students with hands-on engineering activities as well as the opportunity to meet engineering professionals from throughout the Hampton Roads area.

Our chapter is planning on hosting a Lego Structures booth. The event will be held on Thursday, February 20th at ODU from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Chartway Arena, Big Blue Room (Ted Constant Center).

Best regards,

EWB-HRP
