Hello EWB-HRP Members,
On December 12th we held a social meeting at The Veil Brewing Co. in Norfolk. We found two promising opportunities for our chapter. One project is located in Iredell County, North Carolina, and is being advertised through EWB to be worked on by a coalition of individuals who want to help with the project. Therefore, if you’d like to help out please check out the following link and apply; many of our members have done so already.
The CECorps Program Manager, Stephen Barr, plans to gather the folks interested in the project sometime in January to provide more project specific information, and then, when the team looks like it’s coming together, kick off the project.
Another potential project is located in Parksley, Virginia, where the town is currently having problems with their wastewater treatment facility. We are gathering more information on this opportunity at this time.
The EWB Hampton Roads chapter will participate in ODU’s Engineers Week again this year at the following event:
Girls Night Out (#GirlEDay): Engineering organizations and societies will provide middle and high school students with hands-on engineering activities as well as the opportunity to meet engineering professionals from throughout the Hampton Roads area.
Our chapter is planning on hosting a Lego Structures booth. The event will be held on Thursday, February 20th at ODU from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm - specific venue is TBD and will be provided in next month’s email.
The ODU student chapter continues to work with EWB Guatemala’s office to make progress in their project. The main focus recently has been refining the equipment specifications in order to obtain accurate quotes.
Our January social/meeting will be at 6pm Thursday January 9th (short notice again) at Elation Brewing at 5104 Colley Avenue in Norfolk.
Thanks for bearing with me on this long email. Please come join us as we discuss the ODU chapter project and potential new Professional chapter projects this Thursday.
Best regards,
EWB-HRP
