I wanted to share a few key takeaways from the Southeast Regional Steering Committee call on March 22.
1. Extension of the international travel restriction:
Given the continued spread of COVID-19 and the pace of vaccinations here in the US and in the countries of our partner communities, EWB-USA has made the decision to extend the international volunteer travel suspension until September 1, 2021. It is anticipated that travel to our partner communities abroad will resume as safe to do so on a country-by-country basis thereafter. Additional info on the extension of the travel restriction can be found here.
In the meantime, please consider opportunities to tackle work in underserved communities close to home via Community Engineering Corps projects. The Puerto Rico chapter is also working on many initiatives there and would be eager for assistance from other chapters in the Southeast. (Please contact Edgardo at pr.st...@regions-ewb-usa.org.)
2. Chapter communications survey:
EWB-USA is looking to better support chapter communication, collaboration, and discussion. To do this, the organization needs to know a little bit about how your chapter communicates with itself, with other chapters, and with EWB-USA. Please have one board member from your chapter respond to this 10 minute short survey before April 15th, 2021.
Your contribution will help support a strong network of collaboration and networking, and we greatly appreciate your insights. Please contact Esther Baas if you have any questions, comments, or additional feedback at westcoast...@regions-ewb-usa.org.
3. International Community Program (ICP) spring chapter calls:
The ICP team has begun spring update calls with all active chapters. In these calls, the ICP team will share important updates on the travel suspension, highlight new resources, and discuss your questions and concerns at the chapter-level.
If you haven’t already, please ensure that chapter leadership volunteer accounts are up-to-date with the correct chapter affiliation, role, and email in Volunteer Village. Be on the lookout for a notification from your PE.
4. Community Engineering Corp Roundtable:
On Thursday, April 22 at 7pm ET, the Community Engineering Corps will be hosting a roundtable as an opportunity for chapters/volunteers to chat with the CECorps staff, learn more about EWB-USA’s domestic work, and hear from one of our project teams. Event link here.
5. West Coast Regional Conference:
The West Coast Regional Steering Committee is hosting a free virtual conference focused on the ethics and sustainability of EWB-USA. The event takes place April 23-24, 2021. Additional information
