September Meeting Notes and October Meeting Reminder

Hello EWB-HRP Members,
Hope all is well!
On September 12th we held a joint social meeting with the ODU chapter at O’Connor Brewing Co. in Norfolk. Three key members of the ODU chapter were present and general project progress including fundraising idea/activities was discussed. The chapter’s originally planned implementation trip to the La Reforma community is during Spring Break in March; this trip may be postponed to the summer to allow more time for fundraising.
Additionally, EWB Guatemala’s office held a conference call with the ODU chapter September 24th. The EWB Guatemala Country Director, Steve Crowe, and Program Engineer, Tatiana Maldonado, were on the call along with key members of the ODU chapter. JoEllen, Pete, Sali, and I were also on the call. Key points from the call are listed below:
§ Steve has been in contact with the EWB Denver office about funding sources for the project.
§ TetraTech has shown interest in funding a water project and Steve thinks the La Reforma project is a good candidate.
§ ODU chapter will be providing a small write-up and additional photographs/videos from the assessment trip to Steve to present to TetraTech.
§ ODU chapter is attempting to refine their project design and estimate
o Steve and Tatiana will be providing –
§ EWB-USA Guatemala Potable Water Standards to the chapter
§ Product catalogs of in-country suppliers as well as product pricing information from recent projects
o Design alternatives are being vetted
§ ODU chapter and the EWB Guatemala office will be scheduling monthly check-in calls
As for the HR Professional chapter, we are still searching for potential community projects through our contacts at the EWB Guatemala office and other avenues.
Our October social/meeting will be at 6pm on the 10th at New Realm Brewing at 1209 Craft Lane in Virginia Beach. Please come join us as we discuss potential new projects.
