Ok, so Rahma water and solar projects should meet at the same time
(there is a lot of overlap) and we can discuss our exploratory trip.

Thank you to those who came to the meeting tonight. We are looking
into Science Olympiad-style activities for outreach (listing neccesary
materials and thinking about the time it takes to do the activity),
and looking through the work that has been done so far to plan a solar
hot water radiator system. I will be posting the design report that
Elena did (Saturday) and I'll call May Lee (our contact at Rahma) to
see if a Friday afternoon will work and what date will work for the
school.
If we get an assessment trip by the beginning of April, maybe we can
get the system installed this summer.

Those of you who volunteered to help with the educational project I
NEED 2 things:
1) a list of possible activities. I can pass on the list that we came
up with at the meeting, but it would be good to see what of those
ideas are cheap, fun, easy, etc.

2) I need you to fill out the background check paperwork. I have a
copy or 2 here and I'll get others from Malcolm asap. I'll make
copies and try to have them with me, so if you see me just ask.

Malcolm is talking about us doing a trip to Explora before we go to
get ideas, anyone interested? Friday afternoon ok?

here are a few projects I found online, I will definitely keep looking
for more soon (blame vibes and design of machinery!)

http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/quick/uiuc/h2oquality.html
promising but long and possibly expensive

http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/agesubject/lessons/energy/solardogs.html
not quite as cool as the pringles can idea, but neat.

http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/quick/eric/hotbox.html
another solar activity, doesn't involve food, but maybe we can
integrate that into it somewhere

http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/agesubject/lessons/other/watershed.html
watershed modeling, not sure if you're interested in this

here's where I found those: http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/quick/middlesch.html

there's a high school page too: http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/quick/highsch.html

that's all I've got for now, more later!

So you guys mentioned earlier that it would be good if the projects
coincided with the lesson plans that the kids are currently working on
in their classes. Any ideas on what to look for specifically in these
projects? I'm just kind of choosing the ones that sound interesting,
randomly weird, solar, and food related! =3

Hope this works. made a spreadsheet (sans prices because I don't have
time to track them all down). Anyone can edit the document...or should
be able to...

Thank you for putting that together! I will send it to Malcolm asap
and find out a little more information for us this week. I will get
in touch with you as soon as I make sure that I have the current
background check paperwork so you guys can start filling that out. I
don't know how long that takes to process, but that will be a
consideration.

Anyone who does want to start on the background check stuff asap can
you post your contact info here or at least names so that I can get
enough copies? Gracias!!!
