PLEASE post where you have/will bring a letter so that we can optimize
our efforts. Companies we thought of to get us started:
Ball Aerospace
Lockheed Martin
Boeing
Johnson & Johnson
Intel
ITT- Watermark

Thanks for your help on this!!!

Sara,
How does it work with a company like Johnson and Johnson where I know
at least five people that I think would be potential donors? Would we
send a letter to each individual or one to the company as a whole?
Also, because of its hugeness, it seems like one simple little letter
would get lost in the mix. Any thoughts?

Adam,
I worked at a large company (ITT) for 25 years and recommend you do both.
You can look at the corporate and individual solicitations as independent.
The people you know at J & J will be happy to hear from you and probably
willing to donate to a good cause (not to mention the tax deduction). For
the corporate donation request, it's important to get to the right person or
your letter will get "lost." Perhaps one of your friends could point you to
the "corporate donation" person and the right way to address your envelope
so it gets there.

Has anyone talked to Amanda in Fundraising?  She not only would have a couple tips, and know some businesses to contact, but she also has a "do not contact" list of corporate sponsors that have special contracts with UNM.  For example, Pepsi has an explicit agreement that they will not be contacted or solicited by anyone other than one designated contact person.  I know of no such restriction on Johnson and Johnson, but any business that has products for sale on campus is potentially very favorable if approached through the right channels.  As for contacting specific friends inside the company, I don't see the harm at the onset, but Amanda still might have some stipulations.

Hi Team
I'm sending over the list of contacts to SOE to be reviewed so that we
don't interfere with their fundraising (Jeremy- it's not by Amanda but
Sharen Hart). Any contacts that you list after today will have to be
sent out in the next batch. Thanks for helping.
