Abstract
The United States is helping
Indonesia rebuild after the December 26, 2004 earthquake and tsunami, which all
but destroyed the west coast road on the island of Sumatra. Mike Guerin was
part of a US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) team providing technical
assistance and design review to the US Department of State for a $254M project
to reconstruct a 70 mile segment of the coast road. Mike's presentation
will discuss engineering, environmental and socioeconomic challenges of the
project design, and status of the ongoing construction project.
